Oasis was glad to celebrate a new local business last week. 💚

I attended a Newnan-Coweta Chamber ribbon cutting welcoming HealthOn Internal Medicine & Primary Care and Dr. Parul Dutta to the Chamber community.

I’ve been intentional about getting out more, showing up, and building stronger relationships within my local business community, so I especially enjoyed having the opportunity to connect with other Chamber members while learning more about HealthOn and the services they are bringing to Coweta County.

There is something valuable about getting outside of your usual routine, meeting people face-to-face, and simply taking time to build relationships.

Congratulations to Dr. Dutta and the entire HealthOn team! Wishing you many years of success serving our community. 🎉

Sometimes nothing is “wrong” with the relationship. Life has simply become crowded with responsibilities, obligations, and competing demands.

Work. Kids. Schedules. Bills. Family responsibilities. There is always something that needs attention.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, two people who care deeply about each other can slowly start spending more time managing life than intentionally connecting with one another.

Conversations become more practical.
Date nights happen less often.
You talk more about what needs to get done than about what is happening between the two of you.

That does not automatically mean the relationship is in trouble.

Sometimes you simply need intentional time to reconnect, understand each other better, and strengthen what you already have.

That is why I created the Couples Enrichment Experience. 💚

On Saturday, September 19, couples will spend four intentional hours together focused on connection, communication, and understanding one another more deeply.

Your experience includes:

💚 Prepare/Enrich couple assessment and personalized Couple Report

Before we call something an accountability problem, it may be worth asking whether ownership was actually clear.

A task gets assigned to “the team.”

Several people leave the same conversation with different understandings of who is doing what.

Then the deadline comes and something doesn’t get done.

Now we’re frustrated about accountability.

And accountability may absolutely be part of the issue.

But first, I’d want to know:

Who specifically owned it?

By when?

Was everyone clear about what “done” actually looked like?

Did the person have what they needed to follow through?

Was there a clear plan for checking back?

Sometimes what looks like a lack of ownership may also have a clarity issue underneath it.

Before asking, “Why didn’t they follow through?” it may be worth asking, “Did we make ownership clear from the beginning?”

When every people problem ends up in HR, the issue may not be that HR is overloaded. It may be worth looking at how well supervisors have been equipped to lead people.

An employee pushes back on feedback.

Two team members are having conflict.

Someone isn’t following through.

A difficult conversation needs to happen.

And before long, HR is pulled into another situation.

There are absolutely times when HR needs to be involved.

But when supervisors routinely depend on HR to handle everyday feedback, accountability, conflict, coaching, and performance conversations, I would want to look a little deeper.

Have supervisors actually been equipped to handle the people side of leadership?

Knowing the job and knowing how to lead people are two different things.

Over time, HR can become the default people manager while supervisors miss opportunities to build the confidence and skills to handle appropriate issues themselves.

HR should be available to advise, coach, and step in when needed.

But supervisors also need support developing the people-leadership skills that come with the role.

If this sounds familiar in your organization, I’d be glad to talk through what may be contributing to it and where strengthening supervisor leadership could help.

What might your marriage be showing you about you?

I’ve been reflecting on Proverbs 27:17:

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”

This Scripture isn’t specifically about marriage, but its relational principle offers something meaningful for couples to consider.

Marriage has a way of putting a mirror in front of us.

We can often see what our spouse needs to work on pretty clearly. But sometimes the harder work is turning that mirror toward ourselves.

How do I respond when I feel misunderstood?

What happens to me during conflict?

Am I listening to understand, or preparing my defense?

What am I contributing to the pattern we keep repeating?

Jesus gives us a similar challenge in Matthew 7:3–5 when He cautions us about focusing on the speck in someone else’s eye while overlooking the log in our own.

That doesn’t mean your spouse doesn’t have things to work on.

The goal isn’t to ignore each other’s growth areas. It’s to approach them differently.

Your spouse may see things in you that you cannot easily see in yourself. And you may see things in your spouse that they cannot easily see in themselves.

That’s where sharpening can happen.

In a healthy marriage, couples can challenge one another, encourage one another, speak truth with love, and call out the best in one another.

There is a difference between sharpening and criticizing.

Sharpening says:

“I love you enough to support your growth, and I’m humble enough to allow you to support mine.”

Imagine what can happen when both spouses are willing to look in the mirror, own their part, and remain open to growing together.

The mirror helps me see.

Ownership helps me change.

Together, we can sharpen one another.

At Oasis of Serenity, faith and biblical principles can be incorporated into couples counseling and relationship services for those who desire a spiritually integrated approach. 💚

“Why do I have to keep reminding them?”

It’s a common frustration for leaders.

You’ve explained what needs to happen. You thought everyone understood. Yet somehow, you find yourself following up again.

It can be easy to assume it’s an accountability problem.

And sometimes it is.

But before deciding someone simply isn’t taking ownership, it may be worth looking a little closer.

Was ownership clearly assigned?

Was there a clear deadline?

Does everyone have the same understanding of what “done” looks like?

Is there a consistent process for following up?

Because sometimes what looks like an accountability problem on the surface may have a clarity issue contributing to it beneath the surface.

When expectations are vague or ownership isn’t clear, repeated reminders can become part of how a team operates.

Over time, leaders may become frustrated and team members may become accustomed to being reminded.

Accountability matters. But clarity matters too.

Before asking:

“Why aren’t they doing what they’re supposed to do?”

It may be worth asking:

“Have we made it unmistakably clear who owns what, by when, and what successful completion looks like?”

At Oasis of Serenity, this is part of the work we help leaders and teams explore: looking beyond the visible problem to better understand what may be affecting communication, connection, and team effectiveness.

💚 Sometimes improving how a team works together begins with getting clearer about what’s happening beneath the surface.

Many workplace challenges get labeled as “people problems.”

But what organizations see on the surface may only be the symptom.

A missed handoff.

Tension between coworkers.

A manager who repeatedly has to step in.

An employee who has stopped speaking up.

A team that agrees during the meeting, but struggles to follow through afterward.

When we look beneath the surface, there may be unclear expectations, communication differences, unresolved tension, lack of trust, unclear roles, or leaders who were promoted because they were good at the work but were never taught how to lead people.

At Oasis of Serenity, this is an important part of our work with organizations.

We help leaders and teams identify what may actually be contributing to communication breakdowns and team challenges, then provide practical tools to strengthen communication, navigate tension, build stronger working relationships, and function more effectively together.

Because sometimes a team doesn’t need another motivational talk.

They need help identifying what’s actually happening between the people doing the work.

For the leaders, managers, and HR professionals here:

What’s one team challenge you’ve seen that looked like one problem on the surface, but when you looked beneath the surface, something entirely different was contributing to it?

Stress doesn’t just affect how we feel. It often affects how we communicate.

Under pressure, familiar patterns tend to become more noticeable.

One person becomes defensive.
Another withdraws.
Someone becomes more controlling.
Someone else avoids the conversation altogether.

And sometimes we focus so much on the reaction that we miss the pattern underneath it.

That’s where awareness matters.

When we begin to recognize what happens to us under stress, we have an opportunity to interrupt the automatic response and choose a healthier one.

This matters in marriages, families, workplaces, and leadership because the way we respond under pressure doesn’t just affect us. It has a ripple effect on the people around us.

What communication pattern tends to show up for you when you’re stressed?

Awareness gives us the opportunity to respond differently. 💚
