Today is Juneteenth, a federal holiday that celebrates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. On this day in 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced that all enslaved people were free, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Juneteenth honors the end of slavery and the beginning of freedom for millions of Black people. It also recognizes the culture, history and achievements of African Americans throughout the nation. Join me in commemorating this important day and learning more about its significance. Happy Juneteenth! 🖤🤎❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
