Norma Rayos Villarreal was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many. Norma passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Lubbock, Texas on June 11th, 2026.

Norma was born to Josefina C. Rayos and Pedro Lara Rayos on December 15, 1965, in Pecos, Texas. She attended PBT ISD throughout her youth.

Norma married her husband, Joel Villarreal on August 27th, 1984. Then, proceeded to become a mother and a housewife.

Norma’s devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend are what her family will carry forward.

She always demonstrated to others what it was like to lead with a servants heart. Norma was the ultimate PTA mom. She loved being near her girls and could always be found volunteering at PTA events and church functions alike. Her love language was cooking for family and friends . If you stopped by Norma’s, you were guaranteed to leave with a full belly and lots of laughs. She loved her family fiercely, especially her grandchildren. She was known for her generous and welcoming heart, and always treated friends like family. She never knew a stranger.

Norma will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God, her generous heart, and her devotion to family. She will be missed dearly, but her legacy will live on through her family and friends.

She is survived in life by her beloved husband Joel Villarreal of Pecos, children: Beatrice Rodriguez and husband, Ivan Rodriguez , Samantha Villarreal and fiancé, Jesse Flores. grandchildren: Kaleb Rodriguez and Addie Rodriguez. siblings: Priscilla Rodriguez; Pete Rayos and Bonnie Thornock; Mandy Sotelo and her husband Gilbert Sotelo, Melissa Hernandez and her husband Manuel Hernandez. And many Brothers/sisters in law, nieces, and nephews that loved her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her father Pedro Lara Rayos, mother Josefina C. Rayos, and sister Gloria Alvarez.

A public viewing will take place on June 17th at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home in Pecos, Texas, from 10:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., allowing loved ones to pay their respects and share memories. The following day, June 18th, the funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home. Immediately following the service, the internment will be held at Mount Evergreen Cemetery.

To continue the celebration of a cherished life, a reception will be hosted from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Social Lodge, located at 1510 W. 3rd St., Pecos, Texas

Maria Magdalena “Nena” Gomez

Maria Magdalena “Nena” Gomez, 73, of Pecos, Texas, passed away on June 9, 2026, in Pecos after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Nena was born on November 19, 1952, in Pecos, Texas, to Alberto and Eloisa Bustamante. She spent her entire life in the community she loved. Although she often talked about moving away someday, Pecos was always home.

In July 1979, she married the love of her life, Alonzo Gomez, in Pecos, Texas. Together they built a life filled with love, family, and lasting memories while raising their two sons.

For over 30 years, Nena worked as a hairdresser, a career through which she met countless people who became dear friends. She enjoyed garage sale shopping with her friends, collecting knickknacks, and finding joy in life’s simple treasures. Above all, Nena cherished her family. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and spoiled every chance she got.

Nena will be remembered for her warm heart, her gift for conversation, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. She was a loyal friend and a caring presence in the lives of many. Before her health began to decline, she enjoyed volunteering at the Pecos Food Bank, where she shared her time and compassion with others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberto and Eloisa Bustamante; her brother, Jose Luis Bustamante; and her beloved grandson, Miguel Angel Gomez.

Nena is survived by her husband, Alonzo Gomez of Pecos; her sons, Mark Anthony Gomez (Desarae) of Pecos, and Eddie Gomez (Gabriella) of Odessa; her grandchildren, Mark Anthony Gomez Jr., Emery Gomez, and Evany Gomez of Pecos, and Abigail Gomez and Aidan Gomez of Odessa; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

A Rosary will be held on Monday, June 15 at 7:00pm at Pecos Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 16, at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Pecos Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Zach Whisenant, Ethan Ramos, Abel Chavez, Luis Salgado, Jesus Gomez, and Angel Nunez. Honorary Pallbearer will be Mark Anthony Gomez Jr.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Oncology, and Pecos Funeral Home for their care, compassion, and support during this difficult time.

Nena’s love, kindness, and devotion to her family will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
