Everything takes longer with Parkinson’s but slow does not mean unable.

One of the most misunderstood Parkinson’s symptoms is bradykinesia: the slowing of voluntary movement. It can affect walking, dressing, eating, writing, speaking, getting out of a chair and countless everyday tasks.

The important distinction? The person often knows exactly what they want their body to do. The movement simply takes more time to initiate and complete.

That means better support isn’t always about doing more for someone. Sometimes it means changing the pace around them.

Pause. Process. Move.
One cue. One movement. Give the person time to finish before adding the next instruction.

Because Parkinson’s may change the speed of movement but it does not erase determination, independence or the desire to participate.
