It’s really easy to commit to integrating maintenance in the EXTERNAL parts of your body and health.. gym 3x/week, haircut routinely, brush teeth daily, etc.

But don’t forget the maintenance that’s required to maintain the internal aspect of your health: nervous system regulation.

A mom came in this week with her son that just went back home after being at away at camp all summer. She was completely wiped out and kept apologizing for it “I slept so good last night, I don’t understand why I’m so tired.”

We got them both on the table and checked and adjusted both of them. Wanna know something crazy?

Same two areas. Same side. Almost identical findings of stress in their nervous system that needed adjusted.

This is what we call co-regulation! Your nervous system and your kid’s nervous system are constantly reading each other. They pick up your tone, your pace, your tension, all of it!!

But here’s the part people miss: it runs both directions. You are also reading them. When your kid is dysregulated, yours goes up right along with it (and more than just them screaming making you want to scream 🤪) When they’ve had a hard week, you feel it in your body before you can name it. Anybody who has parented through a rough season knows exactly what we mean!

So do what you can together - get outside together, eat together, slow down together in the evening instead of separately. Get ADJUSTED together!!

Here’s the problem with going off feeling alone: symptoms are the last thing to come and the first thing to go. Which means you can feel dramatically better while your body still has real work left, and you can also have a miserable week that has nothing to do with whether you’re actually progressing.

So we use both approaches to track your progress ave tailor your care - from your initial evaluation to your 5th, 6th, 7th + scan

The subjective side is you. Your paperwork, your pain scale, your history, and the question we ask every time you walk in. What’s changed? What have you noticed? What’s driving you crazy this week? Nobody knows your body better than you do.

We always say that we anticipate you FEELING better pretty quick. We want to make sure your nervous system is actually making real, objective changes along the way at the same time so you aren’t right back to where you started in a couple months!!

If your providers are not approaching your care with both questions and testing, you may not be getting the in depth care your body is needing!

Turns out you’re not alone after all!

Seven separate families brought up sleep. Five brought up their kid’s digestion. Four asked some version of “am I still allowed to work out.” Three asked about their picky eaters. All in just ONE DAY! Different families, different appointment times, no idea the person before them just asked the exact same thing

It feels like you are the only one struggling especially when you’re in the thick of it but you aren’t!

These are the most common conversations we have in our office! Common does not mean normal. It just means a lot of us are stuck in the same place at the same time and there’s a reason these topics come up in our office - because it is all things we can help with and want for you!

Worth saying: this isn’t only a C-section thing

Fast labors, long labors, inductions, vacuum or forceps, cord around the neck..anything that changes how a baby’s nervous system gets its first signal can show up the same way around week six!

C-section is just the clearest version of it, which is why we started here in making sure those mamas understand exactly what’s happening!
