Let's talk about one of our favorite muscle groups to train: the glutes! Your glute muscles include your gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, and gluteus minimus, and these muscles are responsible for propelling you forward and providing pelvic stability during walking, stair climbing, and running. Glute muscle weakness can not only contribute to hip pain but sometimes low back and knee pain as well. Here are 3 glute strengthening exercises we love to incorporate into our treatment sessions:
1) bridge: recruits glutes and hamstrings and helps with bed mobility.
2) resisted side step: improves pelvic stability and weight transfer from one leg to the other during gait.
3) single leg RDL: increases posterior chain strength of the entire leg, as well as core stability and single leg balance training.
