With our pumpkin decorating contest coming up next week, our residents got a little head start and let their creativity shine! What a beautiful day filled with faith, fellowship, and the joy of music here at Independence Village of Pella!

Our morning began on a wonderful note as we welcomed the Pella Christian Schools High School Worship Team and their Music Director, who shared a special program with our residents as part of their Community Builders Day of service. It was such a blessing to see these young hearts sharing their gifts and spreading God's love through music.

The blessings continued into the evening as our dear friends from Sounds of Inspiration joined us for a beautiful performance of traditional hymns we all know and love. Familiar melodies filled the room, bringing back cherished memories and filling our hearts with peace, comfort, and joy.

Music has a special way of touching the soul, and today was a beautiful reminder of how faith can bring generations together. We are so grateful to both groups for sharing their time and talents with us and reminding us that some of life's greatest blessings are found in the simplest moments of worship, praise, and togetherness.

What a fun and exciting day of learning at Independence Village of Pella! We had a wonderful time welcoming Blank Park Zoo’s “Zoo to You” program for an educational experience that brought the excitement of the zoo right to us! Our residents enjoyed learning about the natural world through engaging activities, fascinating zoological artifacts, and even some special animal encounters.

Blank Park Zoo’s mission is to inspire an appreciation of the natural world through conservation, education, research, and recreation, and their Zoo to You program certainly brought that mission to life! We also got a sneak peek at some of the exciting updates coming to the zoo. A big thank you to Blank Park Zoo for sharing such a fun, memorable, and educational experience with us. We loved every minute!

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Mark Thomas and a group of students from Central College who are taking a course focused on Technology and Community! Together, they explored topics like smartphone settings, working with photos, social media, and one that sparked plenty of conversation, how to recognize and avoid scams.

Afterward, our residents broke into smaller groups with the students, giving them the opportunity to ask questions, get hands-on help, and dive deeper into the technology they use every day. The conversation around scam awareness was especially popular and provided some great information on how to stay safe in an increasingly digital world.

We are grateful to Professor Thomas and the Central College students for spending time with us, sharing their knowledge, and creating such a wonderful intergenerational learning experience. We look forward to welcoming them back to Independence Village of Pella again soon!

Our crafty ladies were at it again! This time, we welcomed the fall season by creating beautiful pumpkin floral centerpieces! From choosing the perfect flowers to adding their own creative touches, each centerpiece turned out beautifully unique. We love seeing our residents’ creativity shine and these festive creations are the perfect way to bring a little autumn charm into their homes! Another fun afternoon of crafting, conversation, and creativity at Independence Village of Pella!

As we wrapped up National Assisted Living Week, we also couldn’t let International Housekeeping Week pass without recognizing someone who plays such an important role in our community, our amazing housekeeper, Trevor!

Trevor truly exemplifies our 1440 culture here at Independence Village of Pella. He brings kindness, compassion, and a willingness to help wherever he is needed. Whether he’s keeping our community looking its best, lending a helping hand, or simply taking a moment to connect with a resident, Trevor shows every day how much he genuinely cares about the people who call our community home. It’s people like this who make Independence Village of Pella more than just a place to live, they help make it feel like home.

Trevor, thank you for your hard work and the care you show our residents each and every day. We are incredibly lucky to have you as part of our IV Pella family!

Cruisin’ back to the good ol’ days!

As we continue celebrating National Assisted Living Week, we took a trip down memory lane right here at Independence Village of Pella!

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Dutch Masters Auto Club, who rolled into our community with a parade of beautiful classic cars. With blue skies, perfect weather, and plenty of chrome sparkling in the sunshine, it felt like we had stepped right back into the fabulous ’50s!

From a Mercury Park Lane to a Chevy Nova, Caprice, Impala, and more, there were plenty of beauties that had our residents reminiscing about first cars, Sunday drives, road trips, and days gone by. After cruising through, the cars parked so everyone could get an up-close look at these gorgeous classics shining like diamonds. We finished the morning with coffee, cookies, plenty of great conversation, and the chance to catch up with old friends. Beautiful cars, familiar memories, and even better company, it was one rockin’ trip down memory lane!
