Dr Lopez Is In with the Friday Facts about The "overgiver cycle."
Especially as women we are programmed to believe we can "do it all, " repeating behavioral pattern a where we endlessly give our time, energy, and emotional support to others without getting equal reciprocation.
How the cycle works:
🎁 1. The Setup (Giving from Lack) out of anxiety, a need for control, or a subconscious attempt to secure affection because we often equate your inherent worth with what you can do for others, stemming from childhood conditioning or trauma.
🏃♀️2. The High (Temporary Validation) aka Being the "savior," "fixer," or "peacemaker" gives you a temporary hit of self-worth, which often attracts takers or avoidant people who rely on your over-functioning.
😮💨3. The Wall (Burnout & Depletion) when you hit a wall of exhaustion because you gave more energy than you could renew, you end up running on empty.
🥵4. The Crash (Resentment & Withdrawal) Feeling unappreciated and drained, you become resentful or abruptly withdraw to isolate yourself and regain strength. Once you rest and recover slightly, the guilt sets in, prompting you to re-enter the cycle and over-give all over again.
