Thank you for the honors you presented at our Funeral Home for Ms. Miller.
On Wednesday, May 27, six members of the Finger Lakes Nurse Honor Guard gathered to pay tribute to their beloved colleague, Edith, at Weldon Funeral Home in Penn Yan, New York.
Edie began her education at Raven Hill Academy and later completed her studies at Keuka College, graduating in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She devoted nearly 40 years to the profession, serving in a variety of roles and settings. Her career began in the Emergency Department before she continued her work in Maternity Care and the Recovery Room at F.F. Thompson Hospital. She later served at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Safety and Staff Development. In addition to these roles, she faithfully supported the local Mennonite community as a midwife, spent many years with Ontario-Yates Hospice, and concluded her career at Yates County Public Health. Caring for others in their times of greatest need was not only her calling, but a gift she carried out with compassion, skill, and honor.
Above all, Edie was most proud of her two sons. She cherished spending time outdoors with her son Michael and treasured traveling with Matthew. Her love as a mother was deep and unwavering, and it grew even more beautifully in her role as a grandmother. For the last two decades, she shared her life with her partner, Pedro, who remained a constant and loving presence by her side, especially in the garden and throughout the final chapter of her journey.
Edie will be remembered not only for the many lives she touched throughout her nursing career, but also for the love, kindness, and quiet strength she shared so generously with her family and all who knew her. May her memory remain a blessing, and may the warmth of her life continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved.
With heartfelt gratitude, we thank Tiffany for leading this tribute, and Becky, Judy S., Sue D., Carol, and Connie for standing beside her to honor our beloved sister and colleague, Edith, with such grace and reverence.
