What is Trauma-Informed Massage Therapy?
Trauma Informed care is a systematic approach towards providing care that realizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands the potential paths to recovery, recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, responds by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and practices, and seeks to actively resist re-traumatization.
A trauma informed IMT holds space for the difficult experiences many people have had and respects the clients needs for appropriate pacing, clear boundaries, consent, voice and choice. The trauma informed LMT proceeds deliberately in a collaborative effort with their client to co-create a treatment that feels safe for the client to explore. Your LMT does not need to know if there is trauma or what those trauma's may be to provide trauma informed care and you do not need to have trauma to benefit from trauma informed care. We all have difficulties and a LMT that approaches with sensitivity for life's challenges can make the massage experience more relaxing.
