A little personal post from the provider’s chair today. 🤍🩵 First iron infusion today. 🩸✨
After months of feeling exhausted, my labs finally helped explain why: ferritin 7 and iron saturation 12%.
One important reminder: you can be iron deficient without being anemic. My hemoglobin wasn’t dramatically low, but my iron stores were depleted—and I could absolutely feel it.
I tried oral iron, but my stomach said NOPE. 😅 So after evaluation, I’m starting a series of 5 Venofer infusions to replenish my iron stores.
But replacing the iron is only half the story. With my history of heavy cycles, I’m also following up with GYN to figure out why I’m losing iron in the first place. Treat the deficiency, but also look for the root cause.
Iron deficiency can show up as fatigue, brain fog, headaches, dizziness, hair shedding, restless legs, feeling cold, decreased exercise tolerance and more.
Sometimes being the provider means remembering to listen to my own body too. 🤍
Here’s hoping there’s a LOT more energy on the other side of these 5 infusions! 🙌🏻
