💗 On Saturday, October 24, Ascension Sacred Heart will be hosting the "Angel Dash," a community event that supports families who have experienced the loss of an infant. It will be a one-mile walk starting at the Ascension Sacred Heart Cancer Center.

The event also raises funds for the organization Rachel's Gift, a non-profit organization that partners with hospitals across the country, such as Ascension Sacred Heart, and provides support and resources to families who have experienced the loss of an infant as well as providing education and resources to the staff who care for these families in the hospital.

During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Studer Family Children’s Hospital and Rally Gulf Coast invite our community to come together in support of children and families affected by childhood cancer.

🩺 Practice builds skill and confidence when caring for children. 💙

Pediatric residents and interns from our Pediatric Residency Program, along with medical students, recently participated in a hands-on lumbar puncture simulation at Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

The session combined physician-led instruction and demonstration with practice using pediatric simulation manikins. Learners refined their technique, became familiar with the equipment, asked questions and received guidance in a controlled setting before applying these skills in patient care. ✨

Hands-on education and mentorship help future physicians build clinical readiness, communication, teamwork and a compassionate approach to caring for children and families. ❤️ Through experiences like this, we are investing in the next generation of physicians and the future of pediatric care in our community.

🎉💙 A huge thank you to our community!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, the amazing team at Cat Country 98.7, and Sue Straughn & WEAR ABC 3 News, Pensacola, $300,000 was raised during the 8th annual Cat Country Cares for Kids Radiothon! 🎙️❤️

These funds will support the creation of a new, dedicated Pediatric Sedation Suite at Studer Family Children’s Hospital, a first for Northwest Florida. 🏥✨ For a child, an MRI, procedure or hospital visit can feel overwhelming. This new space will be designed with kids and families at the center, helping replace fear with comfort, anxiety with trust and uncertainty with reassurance. 🧸💙

Thank you to everyone who donated, listened and shared their stories, and special thanks to Hanto + Clarke General Contractors for presenting this year’s event and Gulf Winds Credit Union and Quint Studer for matching gifts! 🙌

💗 Madison's story is both heartbreaking and inspiring—a powerful reflection of a mother's love and the compassion of caregivers.

When Madison learned she was pregnant at the same time her aggressive bone cancer had returned, she made the deeply personal decision to prioritize her baby over treatments intended to extend her own life.

After her daughter, Marie, was born 10 weeks premature and admitted to the NICU at Studer Family Children's Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, Madison moved into hospice care at the hospital.

That's when our NICU team, led by Nurse Manager Julie Adams, went above and beyond to help mother and daughter spend precious time together. 💕

From arranging a professional photo shoot 📸 to bringing an adult patient bed into Marie's NICU room, the team worked to make every possible moment together meaningful and memorable for the family. We're grateful to WEAR-TV and Sue Straughn for sharing Madison's moving story as part of “Angels in Our Midst” and shining a light on the extraordinary compassion of our caregivers. 💙

At just 11 years old, Will has shown incredible courage and determination throughout his five-year journey battling leukemia. ❤️

Under the care of Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz and care teams with Nemours Children’s Health, along with the dedicated oncology teams at Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, Will has faced every challenge with strength, resilience and a sense of humor that inspires everyone around him. 💪✨

💙 Some moments stay with you.

For Richard Vigil, it was the silent drive home after his first code—a pediatric patient who didn't make it—and a shift that still had to keep moving.

Two years later, that experience became a training program designed to prepare clinicians for some of the hardest conversations in medicine. 🩺

As SEAL Team coordinator at Studer Family Children's Hospital, Richard partnered with colleagues in pediatric emergency medicine, palliative care and clinical education to help residents learn how to deliver difficult news with compassion—and how to carry its emotional weight.

Through live simulations and support from Child Life, Spiritual Care, nursing and medicine, the program is already making an impact. Its first cohort included 30 residents completing simulations and 53 associates participating in educational sessions, with significant gains in clinician confidence. 🤝

As a major training site for the region's future physicians, Ascension Sacred Heart is helping prepare doctors to care for families through life's most difficult moments—while making sure caregivers don't have to carry those moments alone.
