Puberty is a major time of hormonal change, and those changes can affect oral health. For girls especially, rising estrogen and progesterone levels can increase blood flow to the gums, making them more sensitive, swollen, or prone to bleeding.
That makes the tween and teen years an important time to reinforce healthy habits:
🪥 Brush twice a day
🧵 Floss regularly
📆 Keep routine dental visits
💬 Talk to a healthcare professional about persistent oral changes
Red or swollen gums, bleeding when brushing or flossing, persistent bad breath, or other noticeable changes shouldn't be ignored. Early attention can help address problems before they become more serious. Healthy development means looking at the whole picture, including oral health.
