THE CHAMPAIGN CAMPAIGN: FIELD NOTE No. 1

Our office manager, Tracie, thought she was moving to Champaign. 😂

We viewed it more as establishing a regional outpost.

My last kid attends U of I. I love the campus, Green Street could keep me fed, and putting Healing Hearts that close to an excellent university would only encourage our already excessive nerdiness.

Honestly, it could get out of hand. 🤓🦄 If you know me you know how nerdy I am! And proud of it.

So yes, I continue casually threatening to open a second office there.

Nothing official.

This is how things happen in the Midwest: You joke about it over lunch for six months—and then somebody signs a lease. 👀

Everybody loved Dolly.

Maybe because she never needed people to be exactly like her before deciding they were worth caring about.

Deeply faithful. Delightfully inappropriate. Rhinestones, humor, wisdom—and room for everybody.

She crossed generations, beliefs, cultures and all those imaginary lines we’re so good at drawing between one another.

You don’t have to understand everything about someone to treat them with kindness. You don’t have to agree on everything to care.

Sometimes you can just love people because they’re people.

Rest easy, Dolly. You did that exceptionally well. ❤️

Back-to-school season can bring excitement, new routines, and fresh starts — but it can also bring stress, worry, irritability, and big emotions for both children and parents.

As families settle into a new school year, it can help to:

• Keep routines as predictable as possible
• Make space for downtime after school
• Check in without putting pressure on kids to talk
• Validate feelings, even when they seem small
• Prioritize sleep, connection, and realistic expectations

Adjustment takes time, and some bumps along the way are completely normal. If your child — or you — are having a harder time with the transition, additional support can help. 💚

With back to school around the corner it is important to have that conversation with your kids. You know that one that involves their tech and social media use- the one that always ends in their irritation and parental confusion- and often an argument and stomping off. Yep that one. But we gotta do it. Because Bad things happen even in small towns and to smart people. This isn’t about fear mongering. It is about talking about hard stuff so we can keep our children safe.

💙 We've all had moments when we felt like the little blue character in the middle of the aisle—stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to go next.

Therapy isn't about "fixing" you. It's about creating space to understand your experiences, build coping skills, and reconnect with yourself.

If you're considering counseling, know that you don't have to wait until things get worse to reach out.

Healing starts with one conversation.
