Morning Mooners 🌘 An extraordinary cosmic trifecta is converging on August 12, 2026, bringing a six-planet alignment, a total solar eclipse, and the peak of the Perseid meteor shower all within the same 24-hour window. This rare convergence is amplified by a dark new moon, creating exceptionally dark night skies that make for perfect stargazing.

Some days the sky offers a single treat. On August 12, 2026, it offers three.

The show begins before dawn. Look east and you'll find six planets strung across the morning sky, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mercury shining to the naked eye, with distant Uranus and Neptune waiting for binoculars and telescopes. It's a rare gathering of nearly the entire planetary family in one sweep.

As the day unfolds, the Moon crosses in front of the Sun. A total solar eclipse races from the Arctic across Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain, plunging the landscape into brief, startling darkness and revealing the Sun's glowing corona. It's the first total eclipse over mainland Europe since 1999.

And when night falls, the Perseids arrive. The year's most beloved meteor shower peaks overnight into August 13, sending up to 100 shooting stars an hour across the sky. The eclipse happens at New Moon, which means no moonlight to spoil the view, the darkest possible skies for the meteors.
