Today is World Blood Donor Day.

There are certain people I will never meet, yet I owe them my life.

During my bone marrow transplant, I required countless units of blood and platelets. Every transfusion represented a person who took time out of their day to selflessly donate so that someone else could have another chance at life. Because of those donors, I was able to keep fighting. Because of those donors, I am here today. I am eternally grateful to the generous individuals who are willing to give a small part of themselves to save the lives of others.

To every blood and platelet donor: thank you. You are true heroes. Your gift reaches far beyond what you can see, touching the lives of cancer patients, transplant recipients, trauma victims, surgical patients, and so many others.

On this World Blood Donor Day, I encourage everyone who is eligible to consider donating. One donation can make an extraordinary difference.

I am living proof of that.

❤️ Forever grateful to the heroes who helped save my life.

I’m in Chicago today and tomorrow at the 8th Annual Meeting of the Androgen Society learning about the latest science on testosterone, metabolism, healthy aging, and sexual health.

Continuing education is one of the most important investments we can make as physicians. Our patients deserve care based on the latest evidence, not outdated information.

Looking forward to bringing the latest evidence back to the women of Central Illinois.

For more than a decade, I have been treating perimenopausal and menopausal women with testosterone therapy and have witnessed truly life changing results in many patients. While it is not the right choice for every woman, physiologic testosterone replacement can help improve energy, mental clarity, libido, motivation, mood, and even joint discomfort in appropriately selected patients.

One patient recently described the experience this way: “After starting testosterone, it felt like I was living in color again instead of black and white.” Others tell me they finally feel like themselves again and that they “got their life back.”

There is still so much misunderstanding surrounding testosterone therapy for women, which is why education and individualized care matter. This video takes a deeper dive into the science, the benefits, and the ongoing conversation around testosterone and women’s health.

Excited to share that my daughter Caroline, completed her AP Research project at Peoria Notre Dame High School on a topic that is near and dear to my heart -- Hormones in Motion: An Evaluation Study of Subcutaneous Testosterone Pellets and Their Effectiveness in Decreasing Joint Pain Severity in Pre- and Postmenopausal Women, explored an important and often overlooked area of women’s health.

Caroline’s study focused on whether subcutaneous testosterone pellet therapy could help reduce joint pain severity in pre and postmenopausal women. Using patient questionnaires and statistical analysis, she evaluated symptom severity before treatment and again approximately four months after pellet therapy. Her research included 36 participants and utilized validated menopausal symptom rating scales along with paired and unpaired t-tests to analyze the data.

Her findings demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in joint pain severity after treatment. The average joint pain severity score decreased from 1.35 prior to treatment to 0.78 after treatment, with a p-value of 0.0019, suggesting that the improvement was unlikely due to chance. Caroline also compared outcomes between premenopausal and postmenopausal women and found that both groups experienced improvement, with no statistically significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.6759).

Her project also explored the broader context of menopause and hormone therapy, including the evolving understanding of hormone replacement therapy following the Women’s Health Initiative study and the growing interest in individualized, bioidentical hormone treatment approaches.

We are also excited that Caroline will be presenting her findings at our 2026 Empowered Wellness: A Women's Health Summit 2026 on October 3rd as part of our continued mission to elevate education and conversation surrounding women’s health and menopause care.

A heartfelt thank you to the patients at the Couri Center for Gynecology and Integrative Women's Health who graciously volunteered to participate in this study. Your willingness to contribute your experiences made this project possible and helped support meaningful research focused on improving the lives of women during the menopausal transition.
