🏕️🌲 CAMP SENSORY BIN ADVENTURES 🌲🏕️
This week our learners are headed into the great outdoors… right inside therapy! 🐻🦌🍄🐸
Our camp-themed sensory bin is packed full of exciting nature items including:
✨ Mini trees
✨ Mushrooms
✨ Frogs
✨ Watercolor pebbles
✨ Bears & deer
✨ A tent & campfire
✨ Soft sensory sand
✨ And so much more!

Our Camp-Themed Sensory Bin brings the outdoors to life through imaginative play, sensory exploration, and meaningful learning opportunities. Children can explore a variety of nature-inspired items including miniature trees, mushrooms, frogs, watercolor pebbles, a bear, deer, a tent, campfire pieces, and more while creating their own camping adventures.

This sensory experience supports children in tacting and identifying common outdoor items they may naturally encounter during summer activities with family, friends, vacations, or camps. Creating realistic play themes helps children build familiarity with real-world environments, strengthens expressive and receptive language skills, encourages social interaction, and promotes flexible imaginative play. Through ABA principles, children are able to practice labeling, requesting, answering questions, engaging in parallel or cooperative play, and expanding conversation surrounding familiar seasonal experiences.

The sensory components also provide valuable opportunities for exploration and regulation. Children experience the smooth texture of the watercolor pebbles, the rough surfaces of the bear and deer figures, the soft and crushable feel of the sand, and the different textures of miniature trees and nature pieces. These varying sensory inputs encourage fine motor engagement, sensory tolerance, exploration, and descriptive language while supporting regulation and attention during play.

By combining sensory exploration with functional and realistic play themes, this camp sensory bin creates an engaging environment where children can learn, connect experiences to their everyday lives, and build important developmental and communication skills through play.

Dramatic Play is happening near you—and it’s more than just play! 🎭✨

Where dramatic play meets real-life skills—building communication, creativity, and confidence one scenario at a time in a fun, engaging way.

Step into our Flower Shop Dramatic Play—where play meets purpose! 🌸🌿

Our children are learning meaningful social norms through giving and receiving flowers for real-life occasions like birthdays, “feel better” moments, or celebrating a job well done. By pairing card making with bouquets, they practice thoughtful communication and emotional expression in a natural, engaging way.
This hands-on experience goes beyond play—kids explore parts of a flower, colors, and even the life cycle, while learning how to properly plant and care for seeds. 🌱

Through guided peer interactions, they practice:
Building bouquets together
Giving and receiving cards and flowers
Tacting emotions (identifying and expressing feelings)
Manding for attention by sharing their creations
We also incorporate early academics by counting petals and stems, sorting flowers, and comparing differences—making learning both fun and functional.

In this environment, children gain confidence, strengthen communication, and develop real-world skills—all while playing in a space that feels magical and meaningful. 🌷✨

Bring spring to life through play 🌸🐞

Our spring sensory bin is designed to spark curiosity, imagination, and skill-building all at once! Children explore a high-contrast mix of black beans and bright blue pebbles while using garden tools to scoop, rake, and dig. Hidden butterflies encourage conversations about pollination as they “help” flowers grow, while small pots, gloves, and faux plants create a hands-on gardening experience.

As they search for hidden gems like mushrooms, flowers, and butterflies, kids are working on fine motor skills, visual scanning, attention, and problem-solving. This themed play also promotes pretend play, language development, and early science concepts—all while keeping engagement high through fun, seasonal exploration

🎭 Why Dramatic Play is So Important in ABA Therapy

Dramatic play is a powerful teaching tool in ABA therapy because it creates meaningful, real-life learning opportunities in a fun and engaging way. When children pretend to cook, shop, garden, or run a business, they are practicing skills they will use in their everyday environments. This type of play allows therapists to naturally embed goals while keeping children motivated and socially involved.
Through dramatic play, we work on social skills such as turn-taking, sharing materials, initiating interactions, responding to peers, and cooperative play. Children learn how to communicate their wants and needs, ask questions, and engage in back-and-forth conversations. These moments help build functional communication in a natural setting.

Dramatic play also targets language development. Kids practice labeling items, answering WH-questions, following directions, and expanding their vocabulary. Whether they’re pretending to be a cashier, chef, or gardener, they’re using expressive and receptive language in meaningful ways.

There are also strong cognitive and problem-solving skills involved. Children learn cause and effect, sequencing (first we plant, then we water, then we grow), planning, and flexible thinking. They begin to understand roles, routines, and how different parts of an activity connect together.

This type of play supports fine and gross motor skills as well. Pouring, scooping, planting, stirring, carrying items, and manipulating small objects all strengthen coordination and motor control. These movements are naturally embedded into the activity without it feeling like structured work.

Dramatic play also helps with life skills and independence. Children practice responsibilities like cleaning up, organizing materials, handling pretend money, following routines, and transitioning between roles. These skills translate directly into home, school, and community environments.

Most importantly, dramatic play makes learning fun and meaningful. When children are engaged and motivated, they are more likely to participate, communicate, and retain the skills they’re practicing. It allows ABA therapy to feel natural while still targeting individualized goals across social, communication, motor, and daily living skill areas.
