🌟Tribute Tuesday | Honoring Avoly Wainwright 🌟

This Tribute Tuesday, Watson-Hunt Funeral Home honors Avoly Wainwright for her dedication to making Perry a more welcoming place for children of all abilities.

Known to many through MeMe’s in downtown Perry, Avoly has publicly shared her family’s experience with epilepsy and her role as an advocate for her son, Haines.

As co-chair of the Haseya Playground Project, she has helped advance plans for an inclusive playground at Magnolia Point Park. This space is designed to give more children the opportunity to play, make friends, and feel included.

Avoly, thank you for sharing your story and putting your time and heart into helping other families. Your efforts are helping children experience something every child deserves: the joy of belonging. 💙

Mary Kinlaw Lassiter, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at her home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Perry Presbyterian Church, with a visitation and reception immediately following in the Fellowship Hall. A private entombment will take place in the Ascension Mausoleum at Perry Memorial Gardens for family prior to the service.

Mary was born on October 29, 1944, in Alma, Georgia, to the late Jeff Lee Kinlaw and the late Evelyn Walters Kinlaw. At just 15, she met the love of her life, Charles L. Lassiter. Their courtship carried them through high school, and after Mary graduated from Bacon County High School in 1962, the two were married. They made their home in Perry, where Mary spent many years as a preschool teacher at Perry Presbyterian Church. She was also a faithful and devoted member of the congregation, and her church remained a cornerstone of her life.

Above all else, Mary was devoted to her children and grandchildren. They were the center of her world, and she poured herself into every chapter of their lives, from first steps and school days to graduations, weddings, and the arrival of a new generation. Her family never had to wonder whether they were loved; she showed them in countless ways, every single day.

Mary was blessed with remarkable creativity and natural talent, and she approached every project with quiet confidence. A master seamstress, she sewed...

🌟 TRIBUTE TUESDAY: ANGELA CUTI BASSETT 🌟

With the Georgia National Fair 🎡 beginning this week, we thought it was only fitting to recognize someone whose work can be seen growing right here at the Fairgrounds.

This week’s Tribute Tuesday honors Angela Cuti Bassett, Founder and Executive Director of The HALO Group of Middle Georgia.

Through HALO, Angela has helped create a place where adults with autism and developmental disabilities are encouraged to discover their strengths, learn new skills, gain work experience and become more independent.

One special part of that work can be found just inside the South Gate of the Georgia National Fairgrounds.

🌱 The Starbuck Community Learning Garden gives HALO teammates an opportunity to get their hands in the soil, learn through experience and give back to the community. Produce grown through the program has even been harvested for local food pantries.

But what grows there goes far beyond fruits and vegetables.

It is a place where confidence grows. Skills grow. Friendships grow. And most importantly, people are given opportunities to grow.

That reflects so much of what Angela and the HALO Group have worked to create in our community: a place where adults with developmental disabilities are valued for what they can do and are given meaningful opportunities to be part of the community around them.

As you visit the Georgia National Fair this year, take a look at the garden near the South Gate. Behind what you see growing there is a pretty special story of service, purpose and possibility.

Brenda Carol Mills Robinson, 84, of Virginia Beach, VA, entered into heaven on October 2, 2026, surrounded by her family in her home. In addition to her parents, Louis Carl Mills Jr. and Goldie Rose Mills, she was preceded in death by her sons, Cleve McKenzie and Mackie Robinson; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill & Katy Mills; her grandchildren: Tiffanie Robinson, Grover McKenzie III, Sonya Carpenter, and Nathan Kerr, as well as her great-grandchildren: Broughton McMillan and Kosta McKenzie.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Malcolm Franklin Robinson, Jr. (Sonny), and their children and spouses, Patti & Terry Simons of Virginia Beach, VA, Crissy & Cary Carpenter of Scottsville, VA, Patricia & Rusty Kerr of Bear Creek, NC, Barry & Lisa McKenzie of Littleton, NC, and Dana & Eddie Gray of Virginia Beach, VA. Also left to cherish her memory are 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, as well as her brother and sister-in-law Roger & Donna Mills of Virginia Beach, VA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Brenda was born on September 7, 1942, in High Point, NC. Brenda was a faithful, sanctified, holy member of Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church, serving the Lord humbly and steadfastly. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
