Moms get a lot of attention in psychology and therapy, and for good reason. For most of us, they are our first and most important attachment figure. As such, they can have tremendous impact on our relationships with others and with ourselves. If you've heard of "the mother wound" and aren't exactly sure what that is or what to do about it, the slides explain it all. Questions? Hit me up in the comments!

This day sucks for a lot of us. I get it; I haven't spoken to or heard from my mom in almost a decade. And even though it's the right decision for me, it still hurts from time to time. There's a reason about moms so much! If this day hurts for you, I see you.
In reverse honor of the day, tomorrow's post will be alllll about the "mother wound": what it is and how to heal it. Until then, take the day back and nurture yourself.

It's the oldest couple therapy story in the book: one partner complains that the other isn't giving them something they need or want; I ask if they have asked for i; they reply, "I shouldn't have to ask!" Well, actually, yes, you should. Why do we so desperately want things we don't want to aak for? The slides explain it all! If you have questions, leave them in the comments.

It's the oldest couple therapy scene in the book: one partner complains that the other isn't giving them what they want or need, so I ask if they have asked for what they want, and they insist, "I shouldn't have to ask!" Well, actually, yes you should. The truth tends to rub people the wrong way. Why? Why do we so desperately want what we won't ask for? The slides explain it all! If you have any questions, leave them in the comments!

I spend a lot of time talking and writing about how to understand and process difficult emotions. Sometimes, though, we feel bad and can't find the problem to process because the problem doesn't live inside us. Well, then, if it's not inside us, what are we supposed to do about it? Don't worry: the slides will explain it all. P.S. My offer at the end is real, but please be patient! Last time I offered it took me over a week to get to everyone. But I will!

Many clients come to my practice after being in therapy for years with no relief. There are lots of reasons this can happen, but in my experience, the most common reason is that the client is holding unresolved trauma, and their past therapy involved only talking. Trauma causes changes to the nervous system that must be addressed in order for the trauma to resolve, and talking alone just won't do it. The slides will explain it all. Before you read them, one important point: trauma is not only about extreme and violent experiences; it includes attachment wounding - emotionally misattuned parents, chaotic or invalidating family environments, etc. Whether you were assaulted or your mom ignored you, the changes to your mind and body are the same. Your pain is real. Don't underestimate it because "other people had it worse." It's bad enough. But it can get better, and you deserve that healing. Get it!
