๐ŸŽ€ FACT FRIDAY - Dense Breasts Are Common

Nearly half of women age 40 and older who have mammograms are found to have dense breast tissue.

So, what does โ€œdense breastsโ€ mean?
Breast density describes how much glandular and fibrous tissue there is compared with fatty tissue. Dense breast tissue is completely normal, but it can make mammograms more difficult to interpret and is also associated with an increased risk of breast cancer.
If your mammogram report says you have dense breasts, talk with your healthcare provider about what that means for you and whether additional screening may be appropriate.

๐ŸŽ€๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ’™ **Men Can Get Breast Cancer Too** ๐ŸŽ€๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ’™

Breast cancer isnโ€™t just a womenโ€™s disease. Although it is much less common in men, men can develop breast cancer too. A new lump, swelling, ni**le changes, discharge, or changes in the skin of the breast should not be ignored. Knowing what is normal for you and talking with your healthcare provider about any unusual changes is important. **Breast health matters for everyone.** ๐Ÿ’—

๐ŸŒธ World Menopause Day โ€” October 18th ๐ŸŒธ

Menopause is a natural stage of life, but that doesnโ€™t mean you have to simply โ€œput up withโ€ symptoms.

Hot flashes, night sweats, sleep changes, mood changes, vaginal dryness, changes in your periods, and other symptoms can affect your everyday life. Every womanโ€™s experience with menopause is different. ๐Ÿ’œ

You donโ€™t have to navigate it alone. Talking with your healthcare provider can help you understand whatโ€™s happening, what to expect, and what treatment options may be right for you.

๐ŸŒท Letโ€™s normalize talking about menopause, and make sure women have the information and support they need through every stage of life.

๐ŸŽ€ National Mammography Day โ€” October 17th ๐ŸŽ€

Today is a great reminder to prioritize your breast health. A mammogram can help detect breast cancer before you notice signs or symptoms, when treatment may be more effective.

๐Ÿ’• Know your screening schedule. Know your risk. Know your normal.

If youโ€™re due for a mammogram, donโ€™t put it off. Talk with your healthcare provider about when screening is right for you based on your age, personal history, and risk factors.

๐Ÿ’— Donโ€™t forget about New Hampshireโ€™s free mammogram program! If cost is keeping you from getting your recommended screening, help may be available. Ask us or your healthcare provider about resources for free or low-cost mammograms in New Hampshire.

๐ŸŽ€ Your health is worth making time for!

๐ŸŽ€ FACT FRIDAY: Know Whatโ€™s Normal for You๐ŸŽ€

There is no one โ€œnormalโ€ when it comes to breasts. ๐Ÿ’—

Breasts naturally vary in size, shape, and texture, and they can change throughout your life.

The important thing is knowing what is normal for you so you can recognize changes that deserve a conversation with your healthcare provider.

Changes to pay attention to can include:
๐Ÿ’• A new lump in the breast or underarm
๐Ÿ’• Skin dimpling or irritation
๐Ÿ’• Ni**le changes or pulling inward
๐Ÿ’• Unusual ni**le discharge
๐Ÿ’• A change in breast size or shape
๐Ÿ’• Persistent breast or ni**le pain

Not every breast change means cancer, but every concerning change is worth checking.

Know your body. Speak up. Get checked. ๐ŸŽ€

๐Ÿฉท October 15 | Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day ๐Ÿฉท

Today, we pause to remember and honor the babies who were loved, hoped for, and deeply missed.

Pregnancy and infant loss can leave an emptiness that is difficult to put into words. Whether a loss happened recently or many years ago, your baby mattered, your love mattered, and your grief matters.

Today, we hold space for all who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy, termination for medical reasons, or the loss of an infant.

To the parents, families, and loved ones carrying these memories: you are not alone. ๐Ÿฉท

We remember. We honor. We support.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ October 15 is also recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, when families around the world light a candle at 7 p.m. in remembrance of babies gone too soon.
