Have you seen the recent headlines about the Cyclospora parasite outbreak? Thousands of cases are being reported nationwide, and unfortunately some locally, with illnesses linked to contaminated fresh produce and leafy greens.
What are the symptoms?
Watery and "explosive" diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, fatigue, and low-grade fever. Symptoms often hit a week or two after eating contaminated food.

Have you seen the recent headlines about the Cyclospora parasite outbreak? Thousands of cases are being tracked nationwide, with illnesses linked to contaminated lettuce. And, I have to be honest, given how much foodborne illness tracking has been cut, I'm not convinced they've identified all the sources and types of foods currently affected.
What are the symptoms?
Watery and "explosive" diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, fatigue, and low-grade fever. Symptoms often hit a week or two after eating contaminated food.
How can you protect yourself?
While the FDA and CDC are investigating, it is highly recommended to wash your produce thoroughly. I would also HIGHLY recommend that you cook your veggies, as that's the only way to kill the parasite. And, choose thick-skinned, peeled fruits (like bananas or melons). If you're feeling ill, always contact a healthcare provider for proper testing and antibiotic treatment.
How acupuncture & herbs can support your recovery:
Even after you finish your antibiotics, your digestive system can feel off and out of balance. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers really effective choices to help you heal:
π± Soothing the Gut: Specific acupuncture points are highly effective at regulating stomach motility, stopping nausea, and relieving painful abdominal cramping.
π± Clearing Damp-Heat: In TCM, parasites and digestive distress are often categorized as "damp-heat" in the intestines. Herbs help reduce the related symptoms like diarrhea and nausea/
π± Restoring Energy: Herbs can help rebuild your body's vital energy (Qi) and support long-term digestive health.
