John H. Strahle

John H. Strahle, age 88, passed away on August 7, 2026, at his home in Chesterfield, VA. He passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

John was born in Easton, PA, as one of 8 children. He grew up on a dairy farm and joined the Army at the age of 16. (He lied about his age.) He served honorably for more than 20 years as a parachute rigger, drill sergeant, and quartermaster. During his career he received numerous awards and citations and did 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. After he retired from the Army, he worked for NB Goodwyn Lumber, then part time for the Virginia State Police.

At 17, he met the love of his life while stationed in Hawai'i. They later married and raised 4 children.

He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, building furniture, and fishing, but his greatest passion outside the home was bowling. He had several 300 games and twice played against professional bowlers as part of promotional events. One time he even beat the pro.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary; four children, Ronda, David, Ted and Johnna; his brother, Henry; seven grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

John will be remembered for his kindness, humor and gentle manner. A public visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home located at 3050 West Hundred Rd. (Rt 10), Chester, VA 23836 (next to Chick-Fil-A). In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Bensley Chesterfield County Fire-EMS Station #3.

Judith Goodman Sears, 61, of Chester, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Jackson Goodman; her brothers, Jack Goodman and Julian Goodman; and her sister, Janice Goodman Burton.

Judy earned her Associate's Degree from Richard Bland College before continuing her education at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Throughout her career, she worked for James River Corporation, Riverside Logistics, and Abilene Trucking.

A faithful member of Southside Nazarene Church for many years, Judy was devoted to serving her church community. She led Vacation Bible School for numerous years and volunteered with the Wednesday night children's ministry. She also dedicated her time to organizing activities and reunions for the Prince George High School Class of 1983.

Judy cherished spending time with her family and especially enjoyed vacations to Myrtle Beach and the Smokey Mountains. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who found great joy in supporting her children and grandchildren in their many activities, including cheerleading, swimming, wrestling, and soccer.

She is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, James T. Sears III; her daughters, Morgan McDaniel (Austin), Savannah Goulder (Andrew), and Jadyn Sears; her son, Jake Sears (Kassie); her grandsons, Brandt McDaniel, Ender Sears, and Tress Sears; her granddaughter, Blake McDaniel; her mother, Doris Evelyn Gass; her brothers, Jimmy Goodman (Diane), J***y Goodman (Yvonne), Juan Goodman (Toni), and Joe Goodman (Trudy); her sister, Jean Gillespie; and her brother-in-law, Roland Burton.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.

Bonnie Elizabeth Hammel (Ireland)

Bonnie Elizabeth Hammel (Ireland) passed away on August 4, 2026, in Petersburg, Virginia, with loving family members by her side.

Bonnie was born on October 4, 1934, in Franklin, Ohio. She was the oldest of four siblings who grew up in the suburbs of Urbana and Hamilton and attended the Methodist church.

Bonnie was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and pet owner. She was a co-owner of the family business, R&H Systems, in Petersburg, VA. Outside of work, she was Mom, Grandma, Aunt Bonnie, and "GG".

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Ralph Ireland and Ruby Neal Ireland; her husband, Russell Hammel; her siblings, Barbara Ireland, Neil Ireland, and Carl Steven Ireland; and her son, Randy Hammel. She is survived by her son, Bryan Hammel; her daughter-in-law, Roberta Hammel; her grandchildren, Kellie Holmes (Scott Holmes), Julie Aponte (Robert Aponte), and Bryan Scott Hammel (Carrie Hammel); and six great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by the many nieces and nephews with whom she shared special relationships.

Bonnie married Russell Arthur Hammel on November 5, 1954. The two built a life and a family together, first in Ohio and later in Virginia. Wherever she was, Bonnie cherished quality time with her family. She spent years supporting the family business alongside Russell and their boys, Randy and Bryan. Her home was a dependable safe haven in the hard times and warm and full of laughter in the good times. Bonnie hosted cozy country Christmases down by the river, where you could always count on cheery decorations, lively four-legged friends, and warm German potato salad.

She delighted in sharing her annual Virginia Beach and Duck Beach vacations with friends and family. Outside of the beach, her most frequent travel destination was the occasional return visit to Ohio for a wedding or the annual family reunion. She spent her final days lovingly cared for by Miss Brenda Pierce, alongside Bryan and Roberta Hammel, in their home overlooking the James River. Bonnie loved her friends and family well, and that love will continue to be passed down for generations to come.

A funeral service for Bonnie will be held at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A Graveside Service will take place at Claremont Cemetery on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a gathering at Bryan's house after the services are concluded, all are welcome to attend.

Our beloved mom, Nancy Kellam of Chester, VA, passed away on November 13, 2025. Born and raised in Exmore, VA, she was the daughter of the late Haywood and Emory Turner.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Charles Floyd; her sister, Lorraine Heaster; and brothers, George and Francis Turner. She is survived by her sister, Jane Turner, of Stillwater, OK; son, Russell Kellam III and his wife Sherrill, of Melbourne, FL; daughter, Karen Pobiak and her husband Gregory, of Chester, VA; and son, George Kendall Kellam and his wife Anne-Sophie, of Combs La Ville, France. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelsey Reed and her husband Curtis, of Virginia; Olivia Kellam Flagel and her husband James, of Utah; Alisha Tracey and her husband Ryan, of California; Thibaut Kellam and his wife Delphine, of France; Aaron Pobiak and his wife Lauren, of South Carolina; Collin Pobiak and his wife Kelsey, of Virginia; and Axel Kellam, of New York. Mom was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mom enjoyed a long career as a paralegal working in Newport News, VA, and Anchorage, AK. She loved reading, playing word games and puzzles, watching football, and being with her family.

It was Mom's wish to be cremated without a formal funeral service. If you would like to honor our mom, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her name. Condolences can be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Robert "Bobby" Keith Dressler, 74, of Hopewell, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dressler, Sr., and Francess Allen, and daughter, Nekole Dressler.

Bobby was a retired Millwright from Local #1402. He had a passion for Harley Davidson, and loved to take scenic rides. He enjoyed westerns, his fur babies, and being around his family and friends.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joanne Dressler; children, Bobbi Dressler and Holli Dressler; grandchildren, Danelle, Stacie, Hailey, and Zakkary; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Alex, and Kaiden; his fur babies, Lilly, Scooter, and Daisy; as well as many other extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends the night prior from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. Janice Mills

Janice Mills, 88, passed away on July 30, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Clayton and Shirley Weisner and was raised in Meriden, Connecticut.

Janice was a registered nurse and worked for OBGYN practices. In her free time she enjoyed quilting, sewing, and crafting. Janice was a loving mother and devoted wife. She was kind to everyone and never let the ups and downs of life dampen her spirit.

In addition to her parents, Janice is preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Charles Mathews, and her second husband, Minton Perry. She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Franklin Mills; sons, Mark and Michael Mathews; aunt, Jane Bell; seven step-children; and many cousins and extended family members.

Ralston Bailey White, Jr.

Ralston Bailey White, Jr. passed away on August 1, 2026, at the age of 100. Born on June 6, 1926, in Petersburg, Virginia, Ralston lived a remarkable life characterized by dedication and service.

Ralston proudly served his country in the United States Army for 21 years, retiring with the esteemed rank of Sergeant First Class. His commitment to duty and honor is a testament to his character and has left a lasting legacy. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ralston B. White, Sr. and Mable R. White; his devoted wife, Emma "Christine" White; and one daughter, Sandra White.

He is survived by three children, Tammie Bynum (Chris), Bobbie Bennington, and Roy White (Lan), as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom cherished his wisdom and love.

A private graveside service will be held in his honor at Southlawn Memorial Park. He will be laid to rest with the respect and dignity he so richly deserves.

In this time of mourning, we find solace in the cherished memories he leaves behind and the profound impact he had on the lives of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace. Tammy Helms, of Hopewell, VA, passed away on July 31, 2026. She was born and raised in China Grove, North Carolina.

Tammy is preceded in death by her parents, Everette and Ruby Wagoner; son, Randy Helms; daughter, Sandra Rena Mitchell; and brothers, Tommy Wagoner and Jim Wagoner.

Left to cherish her memories include her husband of 66 years, James Helms; daughters, Sherry Helms and Kathy Kinsey; granddaughter, Roxanne Bennett; great-granddaughters, Cadence and Kelsey; great-grandson, Derek; grandson, Nicholas Mitchell (Jennifer); grandson, Jamie Helms (Mallory); son-in-law Walter Mitchell; and grandchild, Elizabeth Harrell.

Tammy found joy in spending quality time with family, listening to Conway Twitty, shopping, and traveling to the mountains.

Tammy was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.

Virginia Katherine Hagopian Topian, age 91, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on July 28, 2026. She was born in Hopewell, Virginia, and lived there until 2018. She then moved to Goochland, Virginia, to live with her youngest daughter and son-in-law.

Virginia was the daughter of the late Maybell Carrie McCormick Hagopian and Daniel Hagopian. She is also preceded in death by her husband, John T. Topian; her three sisters, Goldie Slusser, Rosa Slusser, and Lucy Hayes; and her son-in-law, William Thomas "Tommy" Sims, Jr.

She is survived by her three children, Teresa Topian Sims, John Randall Topian (Renee), and Donna Topian Rosenbloom (Steven); five grandchildren, Nicholas Sims (Kristie), Mackenzie Topian Jones (Dustin), Meredith Topian, Scott Mitchell Rosenbloom (Sasha), and Ethan Rosenbloom; and three great-grandchildren, Penelope Sims, Nora Sims, and Baylor Jones.

All services will be private. The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.

Anne Kinsey Dinan

Anne Kinsey Dinan passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the age of 79 from complications related to Alzheimer's Disease.

Born in Richmond, Virginia, on September 4, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Thorogood and Nancy Alden Strong Kinsey of Petersburg, Virginia. Anne cherished growing up in Petersburg and often told stories of the fun she had playing golf, riding bikes, and building pine tag forts in the woods with her many friends. She attended high school at The Holton Arms School in Washington, DC, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, Phi Beta Kappa, from Sweet Briar College.

It was a mutual love of art that led to an introduction to Terrance Richard Dinan, a US Army Lieutenant from NYC attending Officer Candidate School at Fort Lee in Prince George County, VA. Terry was soon sent to Vietnam, and after a couple of years of exchanging letters and audio tapes, they were married at Petersburg's Christ & Grace Episcopal Church in 1969.

Anne spent the next 50+ years in NYC, raising her children with Terry, playing tennis and bridge with friends, working (most recently at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLC), caring for her grandchildren, and completing countless incredible creative projects. Anne loved illustrating children's books (and a book that helped save Sweet Briar!), sewing, drawing, painting, and crafting unparalleled dollhouse miniatures. The Christmas ornaments that she made and gave to family and friends each year serve as a reminder of her boundless creativity and the importance of holding beautiful memories close to your heart.

Anne spent her last years at the Petersburg Home for Ladies, where she was surrounded by love and care. Her family's gratitude for everyone at PHL and for the staff of At Home Care Hospice of Colonial Heights cannot be expressed in words.

Anne was brave, curious, and able to make everyone she met feel at home. Her kindness, humor, passion for learning, and dedication to her family—whom she always put above all else—will be greatly missed. She leaves behind her husband, Terrance Richard Dinan; daughters, Kinsey Alden Dinan and Ashley Macdonnald Dinan; grandchildren, Evelyn Ana Pineiro and Sebastian Strong Pineiro (who have inherited their grandmother's creativity); son-in-law, Bobby Ederra Pineiro; daughter-in-law, Laura Jane Forbes; sisters, Susan Strong Kinsey and Kitty Kinsey Gwaltney; as well as her brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.

A graveside service for Anne will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, followed by a reception. In NYC, a memorial service for Anne will be held at 5:00pm on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Church of Saint Michael and Saint George (344 East 69th Street), followed by a reception at the Union Club (101 East 69th Street); for church transportation and parking information, see https://saintsmichaelandgeorge.org/.
