A recent review published in the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, titled “A Qualitative Scoping Review of Massage and Massage Therapy on the Mental Health and Well-being of Individuals Living with a Serious and Potentially Life-limiting Physical Illness,” found a considerable body of research supporting the positive impact of massage on mental health, well-being, and overall patient experience.
One of the most interesting findings was that the benefits of massage were highly personal. Participants described their experiences in unique ways, but common themes included improved well-being, greater emotional comfort, and a better quality of life.
The researchers concluded that massage therapy can play an important role as an integrated healthcare intervention, helping people live better while facing serious illness.
As massage therapists, we see this every day!
Massage isn’t only about reducing pain.
Sometimes it’s about helping someone feel calmer, more connected, more supported, and more like themselves again.
