Meet Dr. Jason Dieterle, Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgeon at McLaren Northern Orthopedics.

Northern Michigan has always felt like home to Dr. Dieterle. A Michigan native who spent childhood summers vacationing in the area, he's proud to care for the community he was drawn back to, and to help his neighbors stay active and doing the things they love.

A fellowship-trained surgeon with dual training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, Dr. Dieterle has cared for athletes at every level, including as a team physician for the Detroit Lions. Before returning to Michigan, he was named a Minneapolis Top Doctor four years running.

He offers advanced treatment options like reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, minimally invasive total knee replacement, and rotator cuff and labrum repair. As one of the most experienced shoulder replacement surgeons in the country, he teaches those techniques to fellow surgeons, bringing highly specialized care close to home so patients don't have to travel to larger metropolitan centers.

Communication is at the heart of how he practices. He involves patients and their families in every decision, with one goal: getting you back to doing what you love.

🥬🍒 Healthy caregivers help build healthy communities.

Last week, 835 McLaren Northern Michigan employees across Petoskey, Ga***rd, Cheboygan and beyond received boxes of fresh, locally grown produce filled with cherries, lettuce, zucchini, beets and more through our Harvesting Health program.

This incredible initiative is made possible through the generous support of the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation and the generous donors who invest in the health and well-being of our team, along with our valued partnership with Coveyou Scenic Farm Market and local growers who help bring fresh, local food to our employees each month.

Thank you to everyone who helps make Harvesting Health possible. Together, we're helping make healthy choices more accessible for the people who care for our community every day.

Check out Coveyou's video below to see this month's delivery!

WHAT'S GOING AROUND?— Each week, we ask our ER team what ailments and conditions are commonly being seen in our emergency departments.

THIS WEEK, Dr. Matthew Steck, a McLaren emergency physician, reports:

Heat-related illness
While there were patients seeking care for dehydration and degrees of heat exhaustion during the recent extreme heat, the more serious heat-related conditions were those that exacerbated a chronic conditions, such as cardio or pulmonary conditions.

Traumas
The trend of patients seeking care for injuries remains high, though more injuries are being sustained in and around water and when operating a personal motor vehicle, such as an e-bike.

Asthma
The recent extreme heat also further complicated many patients’ asthma, causing wheezing and, in severe cases, shortness of breath.
