Fun day in the workshop! We’re working on a brand-new 3D printing project for our September StoryCrate at Speech & Smile , and we are loving these five senses cards designed to pair with the book You and Me from Caley Nunnally, M.Ed. CCC-SLP and Ninewise Publishing

This is such a perfect story for back-to-school season. The September crate will include a variety of mini objects, hands-on learning activities, and a few fun extras to help bring the story to life.

Why do we love mini objects, story props, and hands-on learning in reading, language, and speech therapy?

Because research supports it.

Studies have shown that children learn more effectively when they can physically interact with objects and concepts. Hands-on manipulatives help make language, literacy, and learning more meaningful, engaging, and memorable.

Using manipulatives can support:
• Vocabulary development
• Story retell and comprehension
• Sequencing events
• Inferencing skills
• Comparing and contrasting
• Describing and explaining ideas
• Early literacy and reading comprehension

When children can see it, touch it, move it, and play with it, learning becomes more concrete and meaningful.

That’s why you’ll find plenty of mini objects, story props, and hands-on activities throughout our shop, therapy room and learning materials.

Trash Stash + Mini Objects = Language Gold! 🗑️

This game is always a hit in our therapy room!

We love pairing Trash Stash with mini objects to create endless opportunities for:
• Vocabulary
• Following directions
• Categorization
• Describing
• Articulation practice

Kids stay engaged, and they don’t even realize how much language they’re using while they play.

One of my favorite therapy hacks? Grab a handful of mini objects, make predictions, sort the treasures, and see what the truck chucks next!
