We get this question every year around this time.

The key is understanding stimulus, recovery, and adaptation.

The difference isn’t always talent.

It’s who can stay disciplined when the work gets boring.

Elite athletes don’t constantly chase a new routine, a new training plan, or the next exciting thing to stay motivated.

They recover consistently.
They eat what fuels performance.
They prioritize sleep.
They master the basics.

Then they do it again.
And again.
And again.

Because the truth is—results aren’t built on excitement. They’re built on consistency.

Good athletes can be disciplined when they’re motivated.

Elite athletes are disciplined when they’re bored.

REST IS PART OF THE TRAINING.

That’s not my opinion. That’s data.

Milewski et al. (2014) - J Pediatric Orthopaedics, PMID 25028798...
found that adolescent athletes averaging less than 8 hours of sleep were 1.7 times more likely to get injured.

Adolescents need 8–10 hours of sleep. For active athletes, that floor may need to be even higher.

Yet the average teen athlete is getting closer to 6 hours.

I hear it all the time:

“There’s no time.”
“You don’t understand our schedule.”
“School starts at 7.”
“Practice ends at 9.”
“Then there’s homework.”

I get it. The schedule is demanding. Travel sports are demanding. School is demanding.

But here’s where I’m going to push back:

Hard ≠ impossible.

Sometimes the biggest performance advantage isn’t another workout, another practice, or another training session.

It’s recovery.

Sleep. Nutrition. Hydration. Rest days. Managing stress.

And just as important—communication.

If you’re training with me, I need you to tell me how you’re feeling day to day.

How did you sleep?
How’s your energy?
Are you unusually sore?
Do you feel beat up?
Are you mentally drained?
Does something not feel right?

Don’t hide fatigue to prove you’re tough.

Being tough means knowing when to push—and when your body is telling you it needs recovery.

Because the goal isn’t to see how much training you can survive.

The goal is to become better because of it.

Train hard.
Recover harder.
Communicate. Adjust. Progress.

Range is great. Control is better. Strength is the goal.

Mobility without stability = vulnerability.
Range without control = a liability.

Every session, we train the stabilizers that make movement strong, efficient, and useful.

Mobility gives you options.
Control gives you ownership.
Strength makes it usable.
