Join in community to learn the ways the people are responding to Medicaid cuts and fighting to keep funding for community safety and mental health✊💜

The entire behavioral health system is at risk because of federal cuts to Medicaid in 2027. There will be new requirements that will result in anywhere from 50,000 to 300,000 Philadelphians losing their benefits. We are already on an unsteady foundation with major behavioral health providers like West Philly’s oldest and largest provider, the Consortium, currently in financial crisis.

The city is facing devastating federal cuts in a matter of months that will severely impact access to and delivery of mental health care. The city needs to share a plan on how to mitigate harm to the community. CBHphilly.org (community behavioral health) spent a ton of money to create an economic impact report. https://cbhphilly.org/about-us/data-reports-and-minutes/economic-and-social-impacts-of-cbhs-medicaid-funding/

share a plan to maintain life saving mental health care! The CBH economic impact report projects: 67,200 Philadelphians kicked off Medicaid
$122M lost economic output
810 lost jobs
decreased supply of Mental Health services
degraded health outcomes, increased health care needs, rising costs, and downstream implications.)

The city spent $1.3 million on police uniforms last year and all they do is to spark fear in Philadelphians. The last thing someone experiencing a mental health crisis needs is to feel threatened and to fear for their safety. If you were unbearably anxious, extremely confused, distressed, or if living felt intolerable would you want someone with a gun and history of violence to respond or would you want a trained mental health professional? (IMAGE: light pink background, photo of Witten, a former Cowboys tight end holding a football with an arrow to text saying "This uniform elicits disgust. It’s a gut
reaction.) photo of a Philadelphia cop in the new dark blue uniform with an arrow and the text "This uniform elicits fear.
It’s a gut reaction caused by generations of and ongoing police harm and brutality. Fear escalates a mental health crisis." the text: WE NEED NON-POLICE, NON-CARCERAL MENTAL HEALTH CARE at the bottom.)

Whether you're a clinician, friend, or family member you can help someone struggling with suicidal ideation by listening to them. But if someone is worried about you calling the state on them, they may just stuff their feelings and thoughts down, which exacerbates the struggle. (Image pink and purple background. drawing of two people talking at a table, text: Talking about suicidality can help decrease the intensity of thoughts and feelings and keeping it in can intensify them. But many people are silenced by their fear of having police called on them and of forced hospitalization. WE NEED NON-POLICE, NON-CARCERAL MENTAL HEALTH CARE)
