Our Resident Spotlight Series continues with Lee Dastur!

Lee grew up on a small farm in Mississippi, spending more time outdoors than inside. Her parents had an easy knowledge about native animals and plants and ecology, which they passed along matter-of-factly. Big cities were a foreign concept in her hometown, but upon learning about William Penn and his Quaker Ideals, Lee found them to be sensible, vibrant, and alive - prompting her to make a move.

When she first moved to Philadelphia 60 years ago, Lee was enchanted by the rich and varied culture of the city, and to this day she is still learning!

Lee became a children's librarian, coming to love the incredible mix of story, art, and succinctly presented information that children's books contain.

Her worldview expanded even further after her husband and her often traveled back to his home country in the East.

Now, after a fulfilling career and years of travel and enriching culture, Lee has made Fountain View at Logan Square her home, enjoying being surrounded by neighbors from all over the world in the heart of Center City!

All the cooks were in our kitchen today here at SkyView Restaurant & Lounge!

This month's featured Homemade Gnocchi in Carbonara. Chef Esteban led our residents through the history of Carbonara Sauce as he demonstrated a classic rendition of the recipe live.

Carbonara, now a Roman staple, likely originated when American troops stationed in Italy during World War II utilized their simple rations of bacon and eggs with local Italian pasta.

Every month, our residents enjoy stepping into the kitchen for an immersive experience of world cuisine and culture.

At our community, meaningful connections matter. Each month, residents have the opportunity to sit down with a different team member to share stories, ask questions, and get to know the people who help make our community feel like home.

Recently, residents sat down with Dining Manager Alicia Arties to learn more about her passion for dining and culinary expertise.

Alicia started working at Fountain View directly after high school and has been part of the community ever since! Over the years, she has taken on many different roles and is now serving as the Dining Manager. Alicia loves what she does and says the residents are what motivate her to come back every day. The biggest lesson she has learned from them is the importance of patience.

From learning about their roles to hearing about their hobbies and passions, these monthly conversations are all about building stronger relationships and creating a deeper sense of community. Stay tuned as we shine a spotlight on more faces behind our community!
