You might not be “bad at relaxing.” You might be stuck in survival mode.
Have you ever finally had a free moment…only to feel restless, guilty, or like you should be doing something productive?
That isn’t laziness.
It isn’t a character flaw.
It may be your nervous system staying on high alert.
Signs you may be operating in survival mode:
🧠 You can’t seem to “turn your brain off.”
📱 You constantly check your phone, email, or calendar, even when nothing is urgent.
😔 You feel guilty when you rest because productivity feels safer than slowing down.
💭 Your mind immediately jumps to “What’s the next problem I need to solve?”
😴 Even after sleeping, you still feel emotionally exhausted.
Many people think survival mode only happens after a major trauma. In reality, chronic stress, caregiving, grief, anxiety, perfectionism, or years of putting everyone else’s needs first can keep your nervous system in a constant state of alert.
Healing doesn’t always begin with doing more.
Sometimes it begins by helping your mind and body learn that they are finally safe enough to pause.
✨ If this resonated with you, you’re not alone.
Which of these signs do you notice most often? Let me know in the comments. #
