25 years ago, I was ordained as an Interfaith Minister. One of the best moments of my life. Sheshadri and I left for India in the middle of the program to stay with Mika until her visa came through. Brought her home and was ordained just a few short months later. What an experience and what an amazing group of people. I went on to be an advisor for the next group and later was asked to become the director of the program which I did for several years.

25 years ago this week – on December 10, 2000 – the School of Sacred Ministries ordained our first group of interfaith ministers. Congratulations and blessings to everyone involved with the pioneering Class of 2000!

I used to think non-attachment was something you needed to work on. For example, thinking about the possible outcomes of something I wanted to happen and working on being ok with all of them. HA! It's nothing like that.

It's a natural outcome of being in non-symbolic consciousness with no effort. I do a practice throught my day called unprovoked happiness. I slow down and just notice with the wonder of a child any object in front of me. It can be light on a tree or water in a glass. It leads to a pure conscious experience or PCE.

PCE has no story, no mind labelling filter, and no boundaries tripping you up. There is an immediacy that allows for a non-efforting acceptance of what is. It's one of my favorite ways of is-ing throughout my day.

I was told by a teacher that first you would have an experience of dependant origination before the direct experience of emptiness. That you would see the colors and shapes and deeply know that it was dependant origination arising. This to me is the practice of unprovoked happiness. When it flips to PCE there is an opportunity to shift into awareness, emptiness, non-symbolic consciousness, or whatever that is-ness means to you.

One of my favorite cards in this deck is the Star card XVII. She’s collecting star energy in her uplifted vase and pouring it down to the earth. I also call her grace. I feel this energy when unexpected help comes my way with perfect timing. I also feel this energy while doing subtle noting or meditating. Energy comes pouring into my being as luminosity like star light.

In this time of extraordinary loss and chaos, Rev. Melissa Mantha invited a group of fellow Interfaith Ministers to join with her to create “G.R.O.W. - Grief Relief, One World” in the hope of providing some solace. People are experiencing grief on many levels: the loss of a loved one, loss of livelihood whether income or job, loss of human contact and social outlets, and loss of the celebration of life's milestones. The list goes on and the pain continues without much relief.

G.R.O.W. is a non-denominational and interfaith ritual containing several activities to help you, your family and friends come together, ease grief, and process the loss of a loved one. You can use the complete ceremony or partake of the sections that serve you best. We suggest having a picture or something to remind you of your loved one if using this ritual for a specific individual. Also, having a percussion instrument and journal would also be helpful, but not required.

All Interfaith Ministers were ordained through the School of Sacred Ministries located at Pebble Hill Church, Doylestown, PA. The School is one of the country’s most comprehensive Interfaith programs for religious studies, professional development and spiritual transformation since 1997. All ordained graduates studied the world’s major religious, spiritual and wisdom traditions, as well as the power of rituals and the beauty of celebration. Pebble Hill Church is an Interfaith Community that offers Sunday Celebrations, Spiritual Offerings, Pebble Hill Camp, Art Gallery, and Outreach.
