I’ve spent almost 6+ years (officially 7 this August) walking alongside families as a midwife, and somehow this season has taught me more than I expected or truly wanted. April and May stretched me in ways I never saw coming. Those births were hard, not because they were bad, but because they reminded me how little control any of us really have. We make plans, we prepare, we pray… and God gently reminds us that His plans are always greater than ours.
Then came this sweet June birth, my last before my self-proclaimed maternity leave. It was also the first time I actually made it for this family’s birth after missing their last 2 babies in my practice. Everything unfolded so peacefully, and it felt like such a gift to witness strength, vulnerability, peace, and joy.
There really is no such thing as a “good” or “bad” birth. Every birth has something to teach us, every story has purpose, and every family deserves to be met exactly where they are. As I step into becoming a mother myself, I carry that truth with me more deeply than ever. God’s plan over mine, every single time. 🤎
Shoutout to all the families that shared space with me and my belly, despite the sweating, the snacking, the water and bathroom breaks. 🙏🏿
