Who said therapists have to be robots? 🤖😂

At National Deaf Therapy, we have moments like this, too! 😂🤟🏾

Therapy isn’t always about heavy conversations. Sometimes, laughter, humor, and genuine human connection are part of the therapeutic process. 💚

As Deaf therapists, we value authentic connections, shared language, and cultural understanding while maintaining professional boundaries.

Because professionalism doesn’t mean being emotionless, and healing doesn’t always have to be serious! ✨

Access shouldn’t be another full-time job. 🤟🏾

For many Deaf people, the exhaustion isn’t just from trying to keep up—it’s from constantly having to advocate for basic access.

“Can you face me?”
“Can you turn the captions on?”
“Can you repeat that?”
“I need an interpreter.”
“I missed what everyone said.”

Over and over again.

That mental and emotional exhaustion can be **access fatigue**.

Sometimes you’re not avoiding people. Sometimes you’re tired of working so hard just to be included.

As a Deaf therapist, I want more of us to recognize that access barriers can affect our mental health too—and we deserve spaces where we don’t have to constantly explain our needs.

💭 Which one exhausted you this week: **1, 2, 3, 4, or 5?**

Drop your number below or share this with someone who needs to understand.

🤟🏾 Therapy in your language matters.
🧠 Access is mental health.

What’s your reason?

Today is , and I’ve been thinking about how we often believe our reason for staying has to be something huge.

It doesn’t.

My husband.
My family.
My community.
My plants. 🪴
My future.
Me.

Sometimes your reason is simply wanting to see what tomorrow looks like. That is enough.

As a Deaf therapist, founder of Deaf Mental Health Hub, and creator of Heal With Naima, I also know that being told to “reach out” means very little when the support isn’t accessible to you.

Deaf people deserve crisis support in our language.
We deserve to be understood.
We deserve to still be here. 💜

For , DeafLEAD reminds us:

988 Reasons: Your reason is reason enough.

👇🏽 Now I want to hear yours:

Finish this sentence in the comments:

“One of my reasons is ______.”

Your reason can be big, small, serious, funny, or something only you understand. It still counts.

Happy September ✨🤎

A new month, a new chapter, and a reminder to move with intention.

This month, I’m choosing expansion not just doing more, but making room for more. More growth. More alignment. More abundance. More of what feels right for me.

My September affirmation:
✨ I am expanding with intention.
✨ I trust myself to grow and receive more.

Here’s to becoming, receiving, and trusting what’s ahead. 🤟🏽✨

What are you affirming for yourself this September?

Image Description: Two-slide carousel featuring Naima taking mirror selfies in a bright bathroom. She is wearing a white top, black skirt, glasses, and black shoes. Slide one reads, “✨ September Affirmation ✨ I am expanding with intention.” Slide two reads, “I trust myself to grow and receive more.” Both slides include Naima Johnson | Healing Out Loud at the bottom in pink and white text.

Today’s art dump 🎨✨

Had such a good time at the Black Hippie Art guided tour at Brandywine Workshop & Archives today! The art, the history, the conversations, the whole atmosphere…it was a vibe. 🖤

I’m realizing I really enjoy experiences like this—slowing down, taking in the art, learning the stories behind it, and exploring the creative spaces we have right here in Philly. Definitely want to do more art tours and experiences like this around the city. 👀🎨

Huge thank you to Brandywine Workshop and Archives Brandywine and Black Hippie Art for putting this together and for providing an ASL interpreter. 🤟🏾✨ Having access made it possible for me to fully enjoy and engage in the experience.

More art. More access. More Philly. More of this. 🖤✨
