Philly is a world-class city, but the people who keep it running are being priced out. 🏙️💔
Prioritizing corporate tax breaks over communities is a choice. Big tech didn’t win when the rideshare tax fell. We all dodged a bullet, because we are the ones who would have paid. And if crime has been trending toward historically, low levels in recent years, why is the budget for the police about 20 million more than the city expects to spend on policing for the current fiscal year? The Mayor’s office is sitting on a $1.1 Billion budget surplus, and is fighting to make sure that money goes where it actually belongs: putting people first.
If we want a truly vibrant city, we need to fund the foundations:
* 🚊 SEPTA: Reliable, expanded transit so workers can actually get to work.
* 🍎 Food Security: Starvation shouldn’t be an option in arguably the most powerful nation on Earth.
* 🏫 Public Schools: Kids shouldn’t miss school because of broken heating or zero AC.
* 📚 Libraries: Protecting the original, and best, neighborhood data centers.
* 🏡 Affordable Housing: Ending tax abatements for luxury builds while service workers and recent grads get priced out.
* 🏀 Rec Centers: Giving youth positive spaces now is how we prevent the justice system from claiming them later.
To stop the brain drain and build a better Philly, we have to house, feed, and support the people who live and operate small businesses here. Let’s make our voices heard. ✊📢
