This past weekend, the 1996 USA Olympic Field Hockey teams reunited in Atlanta for the 30th anniversary celebration and USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame ceremony.
For Steve, it meant going back to the city where he competed as an Olympian — and seeing teammates he hadn’t shared a field with since.
30 years later. Same city. Same people. Same feeling.
Standing on that field again with these people is a reminder of why this sport matters — and why the craft never really leaves you.
It just finds new ways to show up.

The best keepers don’t arrive empty. Their club coach taught them how to compete. Their team taught them how to read a game.
By the time they get to me at the Goalkeeping 1-On-1 Institute, the foundation is already there.
My work picks up from there. I refine the science behind every save — the neural patterns, the reaction defaults, the biomechanics that turn the save into instinct. This is the kind of specialized field hockey goalkeeper training that doesn’t fit into team practice.

There’s a window before every save. About 200 milliseconds long.

It’s the time between when the ball leaves the stick and when you have to be in position to stop it. Too fast for thinking — you either have the right default reaction wired in, or you don’t.
