Congratulations to Alex Kobb, PT, DPT, on receiving a Mission Moment Award! When Alex learned his patient had a passion for golf, he turned therapy into something personal by creating a simulated golf session to support stroke recovery. Using toy balls, a club, a custom target setup, and even a putting green, Alex helped bring the course to his patient. Thank you, Alex!

For Josh Jones, independence is no longer out of reach.

After a 2015 diving accident left him paralyzed, Josh dedicated months to rehabilitation at Jefferson Moss-Magee—but still needed help with many daily tasks.

Now, as part of the NIH-funded Grasp-Release Assessment of a Networked Neuroprosthesis Device (GRANND) clinical trial, Josh has received an implanted neuroprosthesis system that stimulates his muscles and restores hand function. Since his 2025 surgery, he’s been able to eat with standard utensils, drink from a glass, write legibly, and take on more of daily life independently.

“It’s a game changer.” Josh continues working with his care team to unlock even more possibilities, bringing new meaning to recovery and quality of life after spinal cord injury.

Say hello to Gabriella Santos, OTR/L, BCPR, CNS, who is about to celebrate her one-year anniversary at Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation!

What inspired your path into occupational therapy?
"I was inspired to go into OT by my neighbor with cerebral palsy. I helped run a dance program for her and other children with cerebral palsy and wanted to be able to continue to do work that allows people to do things that make them happy!"

What is the most gratifying part of your job?
"Being able to be there for patients during difficult times in their lives and helping them engage in everyday meaningful activities."

Can you share a memory of working with a particular patient that was very meaningful or impactful on you?
"I had a patient who loved dogs and had a stroke that affected his right arm. He was not initially able to move his arm so one way we would motivate him to use the right arm was to brush and pet our facility dog while in side-lying! (and it worked, he was able to move his arm initially a little and then a lot more.)"

What is one piece of advice you give your patients?
"Be proud of yourself through all the small and large accomplishments!"
