Patrick Francis Dio, Jr. 80, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Patrick was a proud Philadelphian whose life was defined by family, friendship, hard work, and loyalty. Affectionately known as "Pat" to his family and friends, and lovingly called "Pop" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was a man whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and love to those around him. He was the father of three children: Kathleen, Stephanie Perez (John), and Patrick (Alicia). He was a loving grandfather to Tara (Roy), Gianna, Ella, Joshua (Gracee), Grayson, Liam, and Harlee, and a proud great-grandfather to Harper and Bryce. Pat was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen "Kathy" Cocciolone (Dio). He is survived by his sister, Barbara Dio; the mother of his children, Joanne Welsh Dio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were better for knowing him. For more than forty years, Pat worked as a truck driver, a profession that reflected his strong work ethic, dedication, and determination. He retired in 2000, having built a career and life centered around providing for those he loved. Family was always at the center of Pat's world. He loved unconditionally and never hesitated to help someone in need. Whether it was family, a friend, or even someone he had just met, Pat would do whatever he could to lend a hand. His generosity, kindness, and willingness to help others were among the many qualities that made him so special. Pat was a proud Philadelphia Mummer for more than twenty years and cherished the friendships, traditions, and memories that came with it. He was also a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan, though many would argue that he spent just as much time criticizing the team as he did cheering for them. It was all part of the fun and part of what made him who he was. A devoted fan of John Wayne, Pat loved westerns and could spend hours talking about World War II history, stories, and movies. He was a regular fixture at Gooey Looie's, where he enjoyed spending time with friends, sharing a meal, catching up on the latest news, and telling a story or two. Perhaps what people will remember most about Pat were his stories. He always had one to tell, and somehow every story left people laughing. Whether recounting a memory from years ago, sharing a lesson learned on the road, or simply telling a tale in his own unforgettable way, Pat had a gift for bringing people together through laughter. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, "Pop" was more than a nickname—it was a title earned through a lifetime of love, support, wisdom, and devotion. Pat was a devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, caring brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and loyal friend. He loved his family unconditionally and would do anything for anyone who asked for his help. His kindness, humor, generosity, and unwavering love for those around him will remain with all who knew him. If you knew Pat, chances are you heard him ask, "Can you do me a favor?" or politely add, "If it's not too much trouble." Those simple phrases reflected the kind of man he was—humble, thoughtful, and always looking out for others. Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we take comfort in the countless memories he gave us, the lessons he taught us, the stories he shared, and the laughter he brought into our lives. His legacy will live on through his family, his friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him. Patrick Francis Dio—Pat to many, Pop to those who loved him most—will be profoundly missed, forever remembered, and always loved. Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Thursday Eve June 18, 2026 after 7 PM until 9 PM and again on Friday, June 19, 2026 after 8 AM from the Rogers Funeral Home, Inc., 1426-30 South 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147 followed by his Funeral Service at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Fernando S. van Reigersberg (“Dito”) passed away on June 1, 2026, of complications from leukemia, at age 53. He was surrounded by his family and a host of loving friends from the many facets of a life well lived. There were songs and tears and abundant expressions of love offered to him and to his family. Dito was born on November 11, 1972 in Washington DC. He graduated from Langley High School in 1990 in McLean, Virginia and from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania in 1994. He then completed an acting degree at The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, and returned to his beloved Philadelphia in 1997. He was a co-founder of the renowned Pig Iron Theatre Company together with Dan Rothenberg and Quinn Bauriedel and co-created and acted in many of its productions. He was named a Pew Fellow and a USA Knight Fellow, along with numerous Barrymore Awards and an OBIE Award for Hell Meets Henry Halfway, which he co-created and played the role of Henry. Most recently he conceived and co-produced a show based on the songs of Aimee Mann, Poor Judge, which last ran at the Wilma Theatre in January of this year. It was awarded the Barrymore Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical in 2025. He also taught at the Pig Iron School and was a beloved mentor to its students. He created the character of Martha Graham Cracker, the tallest hairiest drag queen in the world, and entertained legions of admirers at many venues all over Philadelphia, in New York, and throughout the world. His voice was a precious gift which he shared with the world (many examples are available on YouTube). Dito and Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret recently celebrated their 20th Anniversary Extravaganza. He co-wrote and conceived and original musical starring Martha Graham Cracker, Lashed But Not Leashed which is available on Spotify and other music platforms. He is survived by his husband, choreographer Matthew Neenan, his mother Stephanie van Reigersberg, his sister Alexia Bastiaansen, her husband Steven, and two nephews, Luke and Eli. He is also survived by his beloved Gerritt Street family and a host of friends and colleagues in his many worlds and who share the grief of his immediate family. We are comforted by the outpouring of eloquent words we have seen, written and online, and confident that the world he has left is a better place because of his presence in it. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Blood Cancer United, Pig Iron Theatre Company and/or BalletX.

A memorial will be announced at a later date.

Frances M. Vargas (nee Stefanowicz) passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones. Frannie was 85 years young. She was born and raised in South Philadelphia with her fondest childhood memories being visiting her grandmother on Stonehouse Lane in "The Neck" with her siblings and cousins, where they would catch tadpoles and run around barefoot chasing chickens and pigs. She would later credit this "rural upbringing" for her love of country music saying, "I grew up country." She would head down the shore for Wildwood Days where she’d love to fish, crab, take boat rides, and loved "Fascination" on the boardwalk where she would play "Roll the Ball", try her luck on the slot machines of Atlantic City, where she won many a jackpot. Frannie "Got the Royal", Four of a Kind, and later took a liking to scratch offs with her favorite saying being " one of these days, I’m gonna hit the biggie." She kept up with all the current Country Music hits, watching video countdowns each week, and often predicting the number one hit. She had a keen ear for future stars such as Jimmy Allen, Morgan Wallen, Shaboozey, Ella Langley, and many more... she knew everyone before they were famous. She even wrote a letter to Country Weekly back in 2009 where they published the entitled "Sexy Blake" as in Blake Shelton, where she went on to say that she liked him better with long hair. She had so much energy not even a year ago, when we went to see our friend's band, "The Strange Angels" and she danced her tail off, always knowing how to have fun. She leaves us with so many great memories, hilarious stories, and will forever be missed and dearly loved. Fran was the beloved wife of the late Edward, affectionately known as "Pablo" or "Pop” and devoted mother to Tommy (the late Laurie), Nancy (Matt), Eddie (Bernie) and Tara (Pat). Fran was the loving Me-Mom and Granny Frannie to Laurie (Mike), Gregory "Snoop" (Danielle), Zachary (Chelsea), Madison (Travis), Matthew (Laura), Christopher (Daniela), Eddie, Lina, as well as being sadly missed by her great grandchildren, Owen, Kiel, Ella, Vaida, Livia, Hannah, and Eddie. She was the loving sister of the late Dolores (the late Jack), the late Arthur (the late Marie), the late Theresa (the late Sonny), the late Elmer (Pat), and Patti Terway, (the late Rick) . Frannie also leaves behind her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing and Funeral, Tuesday, June 16, 2026 after 8 AM until 10 AM at the Rogers Funeral Home, Inc., 1426–30 South 3rd St., Philadelphia PA 19147 followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 from Sacred Heart of Jesus Church,1404 S. 3rd St., Philadelphia PA 19147.
