Gary W. Lewis, 79, formerly of Philipsburg, passed away, Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Graystone Court Villa in Clearfield. Born June 20, 1947 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late William and Bernice (Crain) Lewis. Gary attended the Gearhartville Free Methodist Church and the Alliance Church in South Philipsburg. He was a 1965 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola High School. After graduation, Gary proudly served his country with the United States Army where he reached the rank of Corporal and spent 12 months in Vietnam with the B Battery 2nd Battalion 35th Artillery. Gary worked for Western Electric Company and Penn Fuel Gas. On August 30, 1969, he married Nancy Emert, who survives at home. Also surviving are his daughter Rhonda Bailor and son-in-law John of Morrisdale; his son Gary Lewis Jr and daughter-in-law Kathy of Wallaceton; his sister LuAnn Dixon and brother-in-law Richard of Philipsburg; five grandchildren Andrew, Dorothy, Cassandra, Karissa, and Colby; and two great grandchildren Harper and Violet. Also surviving is his best 4-legged baby “Sparky”. As most of his family and friends know, Gary loved to fish!! If he wasn’t at home, he was fishing. He was “lucky” in fishing, as many times he was the only one catching fish at the lake or stream that day. He was even featured on “Big Ole Fish” on WTAJ-TV. Gary also loved to hunt and was an avid puzzle builder, which he shared on his page. If he was sitting in his big recliner, he might be doing word search, watching Gunsmoke or The Price Is Right. For many years, he was the weather reporter from West Decatur to Joe Murgo on WTAJ-TV on the 11 o’clock news. The family wishes to thank the James E. Van Zandt Medical Center in Altoona and the VA In Home Care Team who supported him through his illness, his friends and his Graystone family. A gathering for family and friends will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 11am to noon at the Alliance Church, 315 Hemlock St., South Philipsburg, followed by a celebration of Gary’s life beginning at noon. Laura L. Chaney, 100, formerly of Morrisdale, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Heritage Ridge Senior Living at Windy Hill, Philipsburg. Born on November 4, 1925, in Charleroi, PA, she was one of 12 children born to Charles and Catherine (Kolonko) Lisovich. Laura was a graduate of Charleroi High School and attended a year at Douglas Business School. On August 21, 1947 in Charleroi, she married Robert R. Chaney; he passed on January 6, 1983. Laura worked briefly in offices before becoming a devoted wife and mother to their six children. After the passing of her husband, she worked at the front desk of the former Harbor Inn and wrote for The Progress Newspaper. Some of her writings were essays on the 1st Amendment (which won a prize) and the Opinion page. Laura was a lover of the outdoors. She was a member of a hiking club and enjoyed the trails in Black Moshannon and Quehanna. She also liked to just sit back and bird watch. Laura was a life long devoted member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Society, choir, a Cantor and played the organ. Laura is the last of her generation, having been preceded in death by a son in law Steven Grimaldi and her eleven siblings Frank, Stella, Stanley, Mary, Josephine, Ann, Andy, John, Felix, Florence and Edward. She is survived by two sons Bill (Lorrie) Chaney of Allport and David Chaney of Pittsburgh; four daughters Annette Grimaldi of Pittsburgh, Karen (William) Stanfield of Wilmington, NC, Joan (Edward) Brown of Martinsburg, WV and Marybeth (Michael) Cline of Middletown, NY; five grandchildren Jason Kephart, Eric Howell, Cory Howell, Brooke Louise Chaney and Rocco Grimaldi; three great grandchildren Cody Kephart, Shaela Gillen and Shawn Gillen; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for Laura will be held on Friday, August 7 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg. A viewing will also be held on Saturday, August 8 at the funeral home from 9:30-10:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 22 St. Agnes Dr., Morrisdale PA 16858 at 11:00am with Fr Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery. Carole J. Batcheler, 89, of State College, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Harmony at State College. Born March 6, 1937, in Philipsburg, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Dr. James L. and Josephine (Dinger) Cornely. On September 9, 1961, in Philipsburg, she married William F. “Bill” Batcheler, who survives. She attended Grier School, where she loved riding horses and won numerous ribbons in riding competitions. She received an associate degree from Lycoming College, where she studied to be a medical secretary. She also worked in banking, and in retail sales at a friend’s clothing boutique. She and Bill enjoyed square dancing with Centre Squares and were avid bridge players. They also enjoyed traveling, taking nearly 20 cruises. She was a member of the Lemont Women’s Club and a women’s bowling league for many years, and she performed with Silver Spurs line dancers. An animal lover, Carole adopted numerous little dogs from animal shelters over the years. In her retirement years, Carole volunteered as a clown named “Ladybug” at Mount Nittany Medical Center, where she delighted in coming up with jokes and gags to entertain the patients. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Susan J. Batcheler of State College, and Carla D. Sauers and her husband, Gary, of Chesapeake, Va.; two grandchildren, Allison Sauers of Christiansburg, Va., and Kevin Sauers of Hudson, Mass.; three nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by her sister, Suzanne C. Holdren, who died January 28, 2022. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Philipsburg Cemetery, with Rev. Greg Milinovich of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, officiating. Mary Clarissa (“Chris”) Zimmerman Simler, 95, of Philipsburg, PA, passed away peacefully in Toms River, NJ, with her family nearby on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Chris was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Matilda (Hoholka) Zimmerman, and step‑daughter of the late Verna Zimmerman. She married James V. Simler, with whom she shared 67 years of devoted partnership and raised three children.

A 1949 graduate of Houtzdale‑Woodward High School, Chris earned her nursing diploma from the Philipsburg State General Hospital Nursing School in 1952. She spent 22 years as a registered nurse at Philipsburg Hospital, where her steady, caring nature helped her build strong, lasting relationships with the people she worked alongside. Many of the friendships she formed there stayed with her throughout her life.

Chris’s gentle strength shaped both her work and her family life. She taught her children the value of family, education, and hard work, leading by example—quietly, consistently, and with deep kindness. Although caregiving was central to who she was, Chris also carried a quiet sense of adventure. In mid‑life she returned to a childhood love of the arts, taking lessons and exploring new interests. She began to travel more, enjoying extended family vacations to the Atlantic beaches and frequent trips to New York City and Atlantic City. She was blessed with good friends and nieces and nephews who remained a constant part of her life, visiting often and keeping her connected to the people she loved. Over the years she answered to many names—Chris, Crissa, Aunt Chrissy, Goma, Mary, Tilly, and Gretch—but the one that meant the most was Mom.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, active in the Circle of Faith, and found joy in her involvement with the Philipsburg NOP.

Chris was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James V. Simler; her brother Thomas (“Chub”) Zimmerman and his wife Joann; step‑brother Clyde Veasey and his wife Jaye; brother‑in‑law Dr. Michael Touster; brothers‑in‑law Ernest (“Chap”) Simler and Jack Simler; sister‑in‑law Maryann Simler; nieces Denise Zimmerman, Diana Latosky, and Jennifer Simler; and nephew Jim Simler.

She is survived by her children Kathy Reinhart (Joe), Jamie Simler (Jonathan Fotos), and Gary Simler (Jennifer Hoffman Simler); her grandson Christopher Fotos; her sister Edna Pearl Touster; and sister‑in‑law Connie Simler.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Front St., Philipsburg , on Tuesday, July 21 at 11am with Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Philipsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, on Monday, July 20 from 5-8pm and at the church on Tuesday from 10am until the hour of service.

Richard “Lonnie” Parks, 79 of Philipsburg, was reunited with our Lord on Friday, July 10, 2026 at his home. He was born February 18, 1947 to Jesse Ardell and Vivian L. (Fleck) Parks. Upon graduation of high school in 1965, Lonnie started working at Shane Industries until he enlisted to serve in the United States Army. He served during Vietnam and was honorably discharged on September 11, 1972. Lonnie gained and maintained employment from Piper Aircraft, Harbison Walker and eventually Glen-Gary Brick, until his retirement in 2009. Bricks remain in our homes to carry his love. Lonnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, tying his own flies, woodworking, and making Christmas candy. He is survived by a son Terry (Danielle) Parks of Philipsburg, two daughters Tina (Andrew) Gibson of Clearfield and Theresa (Eric) Ramsey of Philipsburg; a brother Gerald (Betty) Parks of Emporium; a sister Frances (Jim) Williams of Morrisdale; and three grandchildren Ian, Caleb and Ally of Clearfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin daughters Lisa and Cynthia Parks, a sister Darla Archer, a grandson Jeremy Conklin and a niece Lisa McMonigal. A service for Lonnie will be held at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Friday, July 17 at 11am with Fred Ferguson officiating. Friends will be received from 10am until the hour of service. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Mock’s Hill Cemetery in West Decatur. Lonnie lived his best life by rescuing dogs and feeding his multiple birds around his house. It is only fitting that any memorial donations be made to the Clearfield County SPCA in his memory. Ruth J. Kehrly, 88, of Philipsburg passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026 at home, under the care of hospice. Born on February 13, 1938 in Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Vera (Cadmus) Molenaar. Ruth was a 1956 graduate of Hawthorn High School in NJ. On July 20, 1957 she married William L. Kehrly, whom preceded her in death on June 4, 2017. She attended Holy Trinity Church in Lanse. Ruth enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, cross-stitch crochet, cooking, and baking. She is survived by two sons, Kevin (Ann) Kehrly, and Robert (Janice) Kehrly; four siblings, Frank (Sandy) Molenaar, Phyllis (Bruce) Keyser, James (Becky) Molenaar, and Jane Leitch; grandchildren, Rebecca (Nate) Hess, Jenna (Keith) Johnson, LeeAnna Kehrly, and Douglas W. Kehrly, and Bruce(Suzy) Kehrly; a step-grandchild Devin (Danielle). She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Bellamy, Brincely, Weston, Levi, Harmony, and Serenity; and a daughter-in-law, Caryn Kehrly. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Brian Kehrly; and three siblings, Patrica Johnson, John Molenaar, and Grace Waldron. Betty Lou Evans, 80, of Houtzdale, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. She was born June 10, 1946 in Philipsburg to the late Ben and Edith (Way) Lupton. Betty is survived by her loving husband Carl Evans; two sons, Roy E. Fleck Jr., and his wife Annette, and Bruce W. Fleck, and his husband Kim Phillips; a sister, Carol Ann; a grandson, Trevor Fleck, and his wife April; and a great-grandchild, Charsi. Philip L. Shaw, 73, of West Decatur, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Heritage Ridge Senior Living, Philipsburg. Born on August 15, 1952 in Philipsburg, he was a son of Alvin H. “Mike” and Alma G. (Butler) Shaw. Phil was a graduate of the Philipsburg Osceola High School, class of 1970, and worked at Piper Aircraft until their closing, and retired from Lee Industries. He was a member of the US Army Reserves and was of the Methodist faith. Phil was a member of the West Decatur Sportsmen’s Club where he served as vice president, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, raising animals and line dancing. In October of 1998, in Kylertown, he married Shirley J. (Firkey) Shaw, who survives at home. Phil is also survived by a son Eric Shaw and his wife Jodi of West Decatur; a step daughter Shellie Brown and her husband Robb of Clearfield; a step son Todd Hamilton and his fiancé Michelle Mittelbrunn of Osceola Mills; a sister Joan Wolfe and her husband William of Huntingdon; and four grandchildren Natalie and Evelyn Shaw and Amber and Devan Hamilton. In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by a son Michael Lynn Shaw on May 27, 2010, and aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Monday, June 22 at 2pm with Pastor Ryan Parish officiating. Melissa J. Reihart, 56, of Altoona, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026 at UPMC Jameson, New Castle. Born on March 9, 1970 in St. Marys, she was a daughter of the late James Charles and Judith (Salter) Wenner. Melissa was a 1988 graduate of Altoona Area High School and received her BA in Nursing from Penn State University. She was a Registered Nurse at the former Bon Secours Hospital in Altoona prior to their closing and then worked as a traveling nurse until her health started to decline. Melissa enjoyed coloring, listening to music, hiking and her pets. She is survived by a daughter Dian Reihart and a son Justin Reihart, both of Altoona; and a brother Jerry Wenner and his wife Lisa of Smithmill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael E. Reihart on February 9, 2025, a grandchild Jordan, and a sister Tammy Wenner.
