She wasn't calling for herself.

She was calling for her dad.

She said,
"He keeps smiling and nodding... but I don't think he's hearing everything anymore."

She wasn't worried about the television.

Or the radio.

Or even the phone.

She was worried about family dinners.

About birthdays.

About holiday gatherings.

About the stories her grandchildren were trying to tell.

When her dad came in for his hearing evaluation, he admitted something.

"I didn't realize how much I was missing."

That's something I hear often.

Hearing loss usually happens so gradually that we adapt to it without realizing it.

Sometimes...
the people who love us notice long before we do.

If someone you love has started saying,
"Everyone mumbles."

or turning the television louder...
or quietly withdrawing from conversations...
it may be time for a simple conversation.

Not because you're criticizing them.

Because you want them to stay part of the moments that matter.

Sometimes the greatest act of love...
is making that first phone call.

Every morning at 7:00, the same group gathered at the local coffee shop.

Same table.

Same jokes.

Same stories.

One of the men gradually stopped showing up.

When I asked him about it later, he shrugged and said,
"I just couldn't follow the conversation anymore."

The coffee hadn't changed.

His friends hadn't changed.

The laughter was still there.

He couldn't keep up with it.

After treating his hearing loss, I asked him what had changed the most.

His answer surprised me.

It wasn't the television.

It wasn't the phone.

It wasn't even hearing better at church.

He smiled and said,
"I got my coffee group back."
Sometimes we think hearing care is about making sounds louder.
Often...
it's about getting pieces of our life back.

The routines.

The friendships.

The places where everybody knows your name.

If you've quietly stopped doing something you once loved because conversations became difficult...

There may be a reason.

And there may be a solution.

We're here whenever you're ready.

There are moments in my profession that never get old.

One of them usually happens without anyone saying a word.

A patient is wearing their new hearing aids for the first time.

Someone across the room quietly says their name.

They turn immediately.

Their spouse looks over...
..and smiles.

Not because of the hearing aids.

Because for the first time in a long while...

they didn't have to repeat themselves.

I wish everyone could witness that moment.

It's rarely dramatic.

It's usually quiet.

Sometimes there are tears.

More often...

there's simply relief.

Relief that conversations don't have to be so hard anymore.

Relief that life can become just a little easier.

People often think hearing care is about technology.

I've learned it's really about relationships.

Those quiet smiles between husbands and wives...

between parents and children...

between grandparents and grandchildren...

Those are the moments I'll remember long after the hearing test is over.

Thank you to every patient who has trusted us to be part of your journey.

Helping people reconnect is why we love what we do.

Keeping you Part of Every Conversation.

08/26/2026

One of the saddest things I hear isn’t about hearing.

It’s about embarrassment.

A patient once quietly told me,

β€œI finally stopped asking people to repeat themselves.”

I asked why.

He smiled a little and said,

β€œI didn’t want to be a bother.”

So instead...

He nodded.

He smiled.

He guessed.

Sometimes he laughed when everyone else laughed.

Sometimes he answered the wrong question.

And little by little...

He stopped joining the conversation.

Hearing loss doesn’t just affect what we hear.

Sometimes it affects whether we feel comfortable participating at all.

The truth is...

The people who love you would rather repeat themselves than slowly lose conversations with you.

If you’ve found yourself saying β€œnever mind”...

or pretending you heard...

or avoiding asking someone to repeat themselves...

you are not alone.

A hearing evaluation isn’t about admitting defeat.

It’s about staying connected to the people who matter most.

We’re here when you’re ready.

Across rural Kansas, Friday nights mean something special.

The stadium lights.

The marching band.

The cheerleaders.

The national anthem.

Grandparents wrapped in blankets.

Parents cheering from the stands.

Neighbors catching up before kickoff.

For many families, the football game is really just an excuse to spend time together.

One patient told me something that has stayed with me.

"I realized I wasn't going because I couldn't hear the conversations anymore."

He hadn't stopped loving football.

He had quietly stopped enjoying everything around it.

After treating his hearing loss, he came back a few weeks later and smiled.

"I stayed until the very end."

Not because the team won.

Because he enjoyed talking with friends again.

That's what hearing well gives us.

Not just the sounds of the gameβ€”

The laughter...

The stories...

The friendships...

The moments that become memories.

If you've started skipping the activities you once enjoyed, it may not be because you've lost interest.

It may simply be time for a hearing evaluation.

August is a busy time across Kansas.

Combines are being serviced.

Grain trucks are getting ready.

Shop doors are open.

Engines are running.

It's the sound of another harvest season beginning.

For many of us, those sounds represent hard work, family traditions, and another year on the farm.

But they're also a reminder of something else.

Many cases of hearing loss develop one season at a time.

Not from one loud day...
..but from thousands of ordinary days around tractors, combines, grain dryers, power tools, and machinery.

The good news is that protecting your hearing doesn't mean changing your lifestyle.

Sometimes it's as simple as wearing quality hearing protection when the noise gets loud.

Your hearing has helped you enjoy a lifetime of conversations.

It's worth protecting for the conversations still to come.

From all of us at Midwest Hearing Aidsβ€”

Have a safe harvest season.

And don't forget to protect one of your most valuable tools.

Your hearing.

One of the first things many people do after receiving hearing aids isn't watch television.

It isn't answer the phone.

It isn't even have a conversation.

They turn on the radio.

Or their favorite playlist.

And then they smile.

I've watched patients become emotional hearing parts of songs they thought had disappeared years ago.

The harmony.

The guitar strings.

The soft background vocals.

The little details that make music come alive.

Hearing loss doesn't usually happen overnight.

It fades so gradually that many people don't realize what they've been missing until those sounds return.

One patient told me,

"I didn't realize how flat everything had become."

Music has a way of bringing back memories.

A favorite song can take us back to our wedding day...

our first dance...

a road trip...

or a summer evening sitting on the porch.

Sometimes better hearing doesn't just reconnect us with people.

It reconnects us with moments we've loved our entire lives.

If it's been a while since you've truly enjoyed your favorite music, we'd love to help.

One of the most surprising things I hear from patients has nothing to do with hearing.

They tell me they're exhausted.

Not from working harder.

Not from sleeping less.

Just...
..tired.

The reason often surprises them.

When hearing becomes more difficult, your brain doesn't simply "turn up the volume."

Instead, it works overtime trying to fill in the missing pieces of every conversation.

It guesses.

It predicts.

It replays what it thinks someone said.

Hour after hour.

Day after day.

That extra effort can leave people mentally drained, especially after family gatherings, church, restaurants, or meetings.

One patient described it perfectly.

"I thought I was just getting older."

"I didn't realize how much energy I was spending just trying to hear."

Hearing well isn't just about your ears.

Sometimes it's about giving your brain a chance to relax again.

If conversations leave you feeling worn out, we'd be honored to help you find out why.

Keeping you Part of Every Conversation.

08/07/2026

A husband once came into my office convinced his wife was ignoring him.

He laughed as he said,

"I can be standing right behind her talking, and she never answers me."

His wife smiled and replied,

"I honestly didn't know you were talking to me."

After we completed her hearing evaluation, the answer became obvious.

She wasn't ignoring him.

She simply couldn't hear him unless she could see his face.

Many people don't realize that hearing is about much more than volume.

Our brains naturally combine what we hear with what we see.

When hearing begins to fade, we often start depending on facial expressions, lip movements, and eye contact without even realizing it.

That's why conversations from another room...

or from behind...

or in the car...

can become so frustrating.

The good news?

Once we understand why it's happening, there are often solutions that can help.

Sometimes the greatest improvement isn't hearing the television.

It's hearing the people you love without misunderstanding each other.

If these situations sound familiar, we'd be honored to help.

One of my patients was a fourth-grade teacher.

She came to see me convinced it was time to retire.

She told me,

β€œKids just don't listen anymore.”

β€œThey don't answer my questions.”

β€œThey aren't paying attention.”

After her hearing evaluation, we discovered something surprising.

The children hadn't changed.

Her hearing had.

A few weeks after being fit with hearing aids, she came back smiling.

She said,

β€œThey were answering me all along.”

β€œI just wasn't hearing them.”

That story has stayed with me.

Hearing loss has a way of quietly changing how we experience the world.

Sometimes we begin believing the world around us has changed...
..when, in reality, we're simply missing pieces of it.

That's why I encourage people not to wait.

Sometimes the answer isn't that everyone else has stopped listening.

Sometimes it's that hearing has slowly changed over time.

If you've been wondering whether your hearing might be different than it used to be, we'd be honored to help.
