Do you remember walking through the airport before smart phones? Everyone was looking around, walking with purpose. Now it’s a sea of eyes averted, phones held at the end of straight arms, focused on disembodied heads.
Remember driving before smart phones? Everyone focused on the road, actually driving. The magic of a song on the radio and the freedom of being unreachable for a while.
Now, eyes are down instead of up and work starts on your commute.
This isn’t a call to “the good old days”. I like these days. I love technology. This is a call to remember that these little miracle boxes are a tool- not the experience of life. Sometimes it’s good to remember that.
