Our world has been going through some heavy stuff for the last two years. A shared, collective life stressor by the name of COVID-19 in addition to political unrest, coupled with our personal life stressors and hardships.

I wanted to take some time today to recognize all of the therapists who are on the front lines providing support to people and to our brave healthcare providers. We carry a lot on our shoulders and try to show up for ourselves and our families too. We all experience negative thoughts to some degree, but anxiety and depression can amplify it and make it hard to control. The first step is getting a baseline of what your thoughts and self talk is like. I usually ask the clients I work with to take 1-2 weeks to track their baseline thoughts via a thought record. The second step is analyzing the thoughts. The third is reframing them; this is the toughest step but once you start practicing it, it will become habit!

As humans we are always growing and evolving. Our interests, hobbies, routines, and preferences might change as we’re faced with different life situations, AND THATS OKAY! This notion that People aren’t supposed to change or that changes bad is outdated and in fact unrealistic. In fact I invite you to think about what your life was like 10 years ago what were your hobbies your interests what was your daily routine? I imagine that somethings have changed, some things might have improved, some things might have worsened, and some things might have stayed the same.
