I ran this on myself last year and got a 6. Six no’s. I was doing $40K months and I couldn’t have told you my cost to deliver a single job without pulling three different files.
That’s the thing nobody says out loud — you can be making money and still have nothing that runs. Revenue hides a lot. It hid it from me for two years.
0–2 no’s: you have a business.
3–4: you have a business with holes in it.
5+: you have a job that pays irregularly.
No shame in any of those numbers. I’ve been all three. But you can’t fix what you won’t count.

Number 1 cost me more money than anything else on this list.
I’ve sent bids and then just… hoped. Told myself I’d follow up Thursday. Thursday came, a job went sideways, and that bid sat there until it was too old to chase. I lost work I’d already won on price because nothing in my business remembered to make the call.
That’s not a discipline problem. You can’t out-discipline a memory problem.
Every one of these seven is something I used to do by hand. I set them up once. They’ve run ever since. The whole stack takes me about four minutes a week to check.

“Systems feel like a cage to me.”
I hear that a lot. Usually from people who are checking their phone at dinner.
Here’s what I’ve learned running three things at once: the cage isn’t the system. The cage is having to hold everything in your head. If it’s not written down, you re-decide it every single day. You wake up and negotiate with yourself about work you already agreed to do six months ago. That’s not freedom. That’s a full-time job you never applied for.
Without a system you’re not free. You’re just available. Available to every fire, every text, every request that lands.
The structure is what buys the time back.

People think 4:30 is the flex. It isn't.
4:30 is just when it's quiet enough that I can't lie to myself. No texts. No crew calling. Nobody needs anything yet. It's the only hour of the day where the only person I have to manage is me.
The block that matters most is 5:45. That's when I write down the one thing I'd avoid all day by staying busy. Because busy is easy. Busy is mopping the floor so you don't have to make the ask.
By 6, the day is already decided. Everything after that is ex*****on.
