Today marks two years since I became the owner of enLIVEn Activities, and it feels like the perfect time to introduce myself and share a little about why this work means so much to me. 💜
Hi! I’m Jenna, and I’ve always had a soft spot for seniors. Looking back, older adults have been woven into so many chapters of my life—from volunteering in a retirement home as a child and working as wait staff in an upscale senior community during high school, to building lasting friendships across generations. Whether it was regularly checking in on elderly neighbors, a college classmate nearly 40 years my senior that I keep in touch with 2 decades later, teaming up with senior pickleball partners at the park or even my kindergarten teacher—who remained a special part of my life for more than 35 years—I’ve always found myself drawn to the connection, wisdom and perspective that come with friendships across generations.
Over the years, I’ve also had the privilege of caregiving for a few families and, before COVID, teaching art classes in senior communities. There’s just something about this generation—the stories, wisdom, humor and perspective—that I’ve always been drawn to.
After 15 years as an elementary art teacher, life eventually led me back to the senior community. In 2024, I became an instructor with enLIVEn Activities, and just a few months later, I had the opportunity to become its owner.
What I love most about what we do goes far beyond crafts, games, music and movement. We give people something to look forward to. A chance to laugh, connect, create, try something new and feel seen and included.
Growing older should never mean growing out of opportunities for joy, friendship, creativity and purpose.
Two years later, I feel incredibly grateful that this little business has brought so many wonderful seniors into my life—and incredibly proud that my team and I get to bring a little more joy into theirs. 💜
