💙 **What Is Treatment-Resistant Depression?**

**What happens when antidepressants don’t work?**

For some people living with depression, finding an effective treatment isn’t as simple as trying one antidepressant.

**Treatment-resistant depression (TRD)** generally refers to depression that hasn’t improved enough after trying **at least two appropriate antidepressant treatments** for an adequate amount of time.

That can feel discouraging—but it does **not** mean there are no options left.

When standard antidepressants aren’t providing enough relief, a healthcare professional may consider:

🔹 Adjusting the dose or switching medications
🔹 Combining medications
🔹 Adding psychotherapy or changing therapy approaches
🔹 Reviewing sleep, medical conditions, medications, or other factors that may affect symptoms
🔹 Considering treatments such as **TMS, ECT, or ketamine/esketamine** for appropriate patients

Depression treatment is highly individual. Sometimes the challenge isn’t finding *a* treatment—it’s finding the **right combination of treatments for that person**.

If you’ve tried antidepressants and still feel like you’re struggling, talk with a qualified mental health professional about what other options may be appropriate.

💬 **Have you heard of treatment-resistant depression before?**

💙 Depression Is More Than "Feeling Sad"

Depression isn't a sign of weakness, and it isn't something a person can simply "snap out of."

It can affect every part of daily life—even when everything looks "fine" on the outside.

Some signs of depression include:
🧠 Feeling hopeless or empty
💤 Sleeping too much or too little
🍽️ Changes in appetite or weight
⚡ Low energy or constant fatigue
😔 Loss of interest in activities once enjoyed
💭 Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
❤️ Feeling like a burden to others

Many people live with depression in silence because they worry about being judged or misunderstood.

The truth is: Depression is a medical condition, and effective treatments are available. Whether through therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, or newer treatments for treatment-resistant depression, there is hope.

If you or someone you care about has been struggling, know that asking for help is a sign of strength—not weakness.

You don't have to face depression alone.

💜 Let's continue breaking the stigma surrounding mental health by supporting one another with compassion, understanding, and kindness.

If this message resonates with you, please share it. You never know who may need to hear that there is hope today.

As we step into 2025, it's the perfect time to set intentions that prioritize your mental well-being. Here are some resolutions to nurture your mind, body, and soul this year:

Practice Self-Compassion
Be kinder to yourself. Replace self-criticism with encouragement, and celebrate small victories.

Set Boundaries
Protect your energy by saying “no” to what drains you and “yes” to what uplifts you.

Stay Active
Regular physical activity boosts mood and reduces stress. Find a routine you enjoy, whether it’s yoga, dancing, or hiking.

Prioritize Sleep
Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. Your brain and body will thank you.

Connect Authentically
Nurture relationships with loved ones. Share your thoughts, listen, and create meaningful moments together.

Limit Screen Time
Take breaks from technology to focus on real-world experiences.

Seek Help When Needed
Don’t hesitate to reach out to a therapist or counselor. Your mental health is worth investing in.

Engage in Gratitude
Reflect on things you’re grateful for each day—it’s a simple way to boost your mood.
