😁 Another happy client heading towards her goals!

This person came in last Friday with shoulder pain for about 2.5 months. Her levels weren't very high, but she was just tired 😴 of dealing with it, and really, wanted to know if she's ok. 👌🏼

She was able to do a handstand push-up on Saturday! (The very next day) As you can see, she is pretty happy. 😬

We helped her learn how to establish her warm-up at an earlier load, where she didn't have any symptoms, and progress from there. ↗️

We slightly adjusted some of her positioning with her shoulders and it also helped! ✅

Then we gave her some freedom based on the two above changes and she's making progress! ☑️

She will return in a week for adjustment to her plan, progressions, and new movements she may have concerns about.

🥳 Keep up the good work!

Great way to gauge your pain during the rehab process!⁣

.physio⁣

When guiding a patient on what pain can be accepted and expected with exercise and activity consider 3 main responses:⁣
1. Pain during activity⁣
2. Symptom response for 24 hours after activity⁣
3. The trend in symptoms over time⁣

Of these 3 the lasting symptom responses over the next 24 hours and also over time are usually more important than pain during activity. This just tells us that sensitive tissue is being loaded and is expected following injury.⁣

Our broad aims are that pain during activity is mild (0 to 3 on pain scale) and settles to baseline levels within 24 hours plus that the trend over time is an improvement in symptoms. If we’re not achieving this we may need to review activity levels and modify them to create the desired response.

👟⬆️ The step up! [Pt. 2.. Regression!]⁣

If you are unable to perform on a certain height box or bench, find a lower 📦⁣

If you do not have access to a smaller box, you can add a weight on the ground to decrease the distance from the ground to the box, as seen in the video ⬆️⁣

As a reminder...⁣

In this video we focus on leaning toward and starting the movement with your knee over your toes.⁣

To perform, the foot on the weight has only the toes on it to avoid pushing off the ground. The exercise here is for the leg on the box, not on the ground.⁣

When standing up, think pulling your knee back to straight and keep your chest up.⁣

Progression to follow later!

10 year challenge: PT/Rehab Beliefs
It's funny looking back on the past 10 years and realizing how much my beliefs have changed when presented with new evidence. Here are 3 examples to name a few. I'm sure in 10 years from now I will laugh at some of things i believe now. Thanks for the help on my virgin infographic. More to come.

This is one I really feel passionate about.
No one really likes to hurt, right?
I get it, some people love that “hurt” they get from being uncomfortable during a workout.
That painful “burning” when you’re pushing through that last set or those last reps, trying to finish your workout.
But what about the other kind of hurt?
For years, people have reported getting better after going through a painful treatment session with their therapist.
I know, even just a few years ago, I was one of those providers.
But then I learned something new.
I learned that we’ve found out that people can actually get and feel better after a session and over time without having to go through all that painful tissue work!
Yes, people get better after painful tissue work. But what if you could still get better without having to endure a painful treatment session?
You can.

🧘‍♂️Should You Static Stretch?🧘‍♂️
❓Do you think stretching is important? Why or why not? Let’s discuss in the comments!
👉On a daily basis I get messages in regards to the best time to stretch, the best duration to stretch, which muscles to stretch before a workout, etc. In general people are asking because of a belief that stretching helps to reduce injuries, increase ROM, fix alignment, or some derivative of these. While traditional claims were that stretching did these things, turns out it doesn’t do much of that, if at all.
👣We can find some quality evidence demonstrating time and time again showing that it has no injury prevention effect. Check out studies from Thacker SB 2004, Gremion G 2005, or Herbert RD 2012 on this subject. We’ve got a pretty solid consensus here that it’s not beneficial in injury reduction. .
🧞‍♂️Static stretchings ability to change ROM is fairly limited. It can have an effect on it, but it’s short lived and more due to altering tolerance to stretching than actually change extensibility of the tissue. To learn more on this, check out Chan SP 2001, Ylinen J 2009, or Law RY 2009. In simplest terms, it has an effect, but we could do better things with our time. . 🤗Now if you happen to enjoy it, such as those who participate in types of yoga that emphasizes static holds, keep doing your things. In contrast, if you chose to do it for belief that it’s beneficial, stop worrying about it and get back to lifting.
