School is out, but mental health doesn't take a summer vacation! ☀️🧠 While the break offers much-needed rest and freedom, the sudden shift in routine can be overwhelming for children. Here are 4 ways to help keep your child’s emotional well-being on track all summer long:✨
1. Keep a loose, but predictable routine.Children thrive on structure. Keep wake-up times and mealtimes relatively consistent. A visual schedule can give them a sense of security while leaving room for fun!
2. Establish screen time boundaries.Long stretches of scrolling can lead to overstimulation and isolation. Try setting screen-free windows or balancing indoor tech time with required alternate activities.
3. Do daily "check-ins" without an agenda.Strong relationships are the best protective factor for youth mental health. Ask open-ended questions like, "What was the best and hardest part of your day?" and just listen without judgment.
4. Embrace boredom as a gift. When kids say they are bored, it can trigger creativity and problem-solving skills! Instead of always planning their entertainment, let them direct their own play and imagination. Remember, supporting your child’s mental health doesn't require perfection—just connection. 💙
