On to my next read! I always have a never ending reading list but the ones that enhance my skill set as a doctor get bumped to the top of the list.

I first got interested in when I was a lab assistant in undergrad working on gamete expression in tadpoles from a lake near . Before I was allowed to begin I had homework to read Our Stolen Future and my eyes were opened. Fast forward to 7 years later when I would actually be practicing medicine and I found myself in LOVE with hormones. They are so under appreciated, impact everyone, and when balanced they give rapid results. But I was finding that the fast sexy medicine wasn’t fixing everyone. Then I remembered the frogs. Yes the majority of my patients were inproving rapidly but there was a small group of them that no matter how gentle or aggressive, crunchy or conventional I was they saw no improvement. The frogs had no 9-5 stress or could careless about a pandemic but we were still seeing higher rates of hermaphroditism. Long story short, it was the s**t in the water.

While the human hermaphrodite rate isn’t climbing, we are losing our quality of life due to some “unknown” factor. While it might be unknown to someone who doesn’t know what they are looking for, stealth infections like mold, Lyme, and chronic viruses like EBV trigger a cascade of bizarre symptoms that, at most got some of my patients a psych referral. Don’t settle for “normal” if you know that’s not how you’re supposed to feel.

Why the hell am I posting a picture of a dirty vent? Because it’s not just dirty, this is mold. I smelled it as soon as I walked in the room (of a pediatric medical center 😱). The lungs have been winning the popularity contest lately but luckily for the body mold doesn’t discriminate. You can find mold effects in the liver, kidneys, urogenital, reproductive, and even in the brain!

Our bodies are smart but so is mold. If your body is struggling with day to day functions, then it makes it that much harder to not only protect yourself from the offender but also remove said offense from the body. The more I learn about how mold presents, the more patients I identify with mycotoxin effects. Make sure you move enough to sweat today and for the love of all that’s holy eat something that’s green! (No green jello doesn’t count.)

This is a real scan from today from an amazing patient who let me share her progress. She is a 60yo F with past medical hx of chronic fatigue syndrome, valley fever, hypothyroidism, and was currently on HRT. After working together it became clear that this wasn’t just hormonal fatigue and I diagnosed her with EBV. We were on the mend from that when her first scan was done (historical scan from April).

DISCLAIMER: this isn’t diagnosing or treating patients, it’s a tool I use to gauge overall health and effectiveness of treatment protocols.

Notice the 4 categories with red. Look at the line that says Nervous system (NS) you read that as 71% of the 6th column, ideally the levels would be as low as they could be, highest stress would be 100% of the 6th column. So at this time most important was her NS which seemed fitting as it was done at the beginning of the 🦠 changes and we thought that was the explanation for the elevation. Second was Urogenital (UG) and she didn’t have any new symptoms that hadn’t already been discussed, so I interpreted this as something we should prioritize for the body for optimal wellness (90% of 5th). Third major issue was her digestive system (75% of 5th) and her 4th priority was her lymphatic system (50% of 5th). She didn’t have overt GI issues but she did have some boggy lymph nodes in the cervical chain that never resolved after the EBV.

Two days after this scan she called me complaining of a raging UTI out of nowhere. Funny how that UG readings was already showing signs of stress before her symptoms appeared. We treated with antibiotics and her resolved reading was down to a 34% of the 4th column!! To my clinical judgement that looks more appropriate for the symptoms we are still dealing with. We also began a digestive enzyme with every meal and the digestive reading dropped to 40% of the FIRST column. It probably would have been lower if this had been a fasting reading.

For her lymph system I went old school. I don’t practice in this office often enough to recommend daily but that would have had the same effect. So instead I recommended using a rebounder (the little trampolines) for 10mins a day. Not only did she drop to 91% of 3rd column but she feels a difference in her neck like it was “as full” and this is without perfect compliance because life happens!

Lastly was her NS reading. This actually increased. Take all the stress from COVID, an argument with a loved one, the end of family visit and yes stress is going to increase. So part of today’s protocol was making sure to do all the breathing prompts on the smart watch and take time to be calm/meditate/prayer.

You can see other changes but I wanted to address her top 4. Did the BioScan change what I was going to do? No, I know lymph circulation is important, but it gives real-time feedback on how a protocol is effecting the body. @ Heilen Natural Medicine

I was speaking to my patient about how they get headaches once a week but that wasn’t their concern. I had to pause the conversation and point out that getting a headache 52 times a year isn’t normal and it was serving as the body’s flashing neon sign asking for help. Needless to say after some adjustments the frequency has dropped dramatically.

When the ability to adapt is gone you know function and structure are going to follow. This is how Naturopathic medicine is different.

How can I help you restore proper function?

On Tuesday I did my first live and I showed you how the BioScan generates an easy to read health report. Reminder, the BioScan does not replace blood work and does not diagnose or treat any illness. That being said it is an FDA cleared medical device that I as a Naturopathic Doctor can confidently use to help guide you on your health journey. Clinically I’ve seen it uncover issues that were not addressed (pulled muscles show up) and show me the real severity of a symptom even if it wasn’t what the patient came to me to address.

So your job as the patient is to HYDRATE, not wear any lotion and just sit there and hold the brass hand mass. Then I use the pen with a brass tip on specific acupuncture points on the hands and feet for a total of 58 data points.

Now for logistics. First think of an ultrasound machine, the crystal probe sends out a specific frequency and depending on what it hits and how it bounces back generates the image we see on the screen. Kinda like echolocation. We are using that same concept by sending a frequency through a specific acupuncture channel to detect how it sends the frequency back. Higher than normal is acutely stressed, think you had ice cream and you know you can’t do dairy or seasonal allergies, or it can be lower than normal which indicates that the body has been dealing with this issue for a while and it’s chronic, think about the impact stress has on your nervous system after years of it. We have data on where a healthy person’s system vs an overly stressed system should be. So based on the multiple points and some fancy math we see where you are at in less than 20 minutes with the help of a simple color coded graph.

It doesn’t hurt. The most you feel is the tingle like if you’ve ever licked a battery. There is no needles or blood. And it’s an affordable way to get a picture of your health. Scans can change as quickly as every day but if you are implementing a treatment it’s suggested to give it at least 3 weeks to have a good effect. I offer this as a stand alone service to bring your report to your own doctor or for my patients it can be included in follow ups to continue gauging your progress.

If I can’t see these brilliant people in person this is the next best way. Learning the most up to date information on how to handle environmental exposures in my patients. Everything is better with unicorn slippers and a sleeping snuggly baby.

Sorry for the crickets during this crazy time. I've been home with little kids and it's hard to post cohesive thoughts.

For the elephant in the room, or the world for that matter. I am still seeing patients via telemedicine (aka we**am or a phone) to continue enhancing the lives of my patients. If you are currently a patient, guess what, you are already on the road to optimal health. The nice thing about having a Naturopathic Doctor on your team is that we are looking at you as a whole person. If you haven't met with me yet, current laws around telemedicine are changed to promote . I am allowed to see you as a new patient via telemedicine. While it's not my favorite (I like to interact in person), it means we get to work together sooner!

I will not be posting any information as to herbal supplements because we don't give out medical advice to the deep dark web. If you are my patient you have those suggestions. If you lost your treatment plan please reach out so I can remind you of safe and proper dosage. I am working on adding more videos so let me know what you want to see! Funny light hearted stuff, science-y stuff, stress management stuff. I'm here to help you feel grounded and whole.

Reminder for my East Valley Friends- Queen Creek Chiropractic Wellness Center has moved to Ellsworth and Guadalupe. I can't wait for you to see the new place when we get to be friends in real life again.

Casa Grande friends- The office is still open. We have mostly switched to Telehealth but there are a few things that can only be done in person.

On a lighter note, I've been working on some big things behind the scenes to bring you a broader access to healthcare. Stay tuned for more!
