Stepping Stones of Hope Providing grief support camps for kids, teens, adults, and families. How do you reach out to a child who has experienced the death of someone they love?

How does an adult family member explore and cope with grief, yet still support a child's loss? Stepping Stones of Hope provides an opportunity to answer these questions during our weekend Camp Paz for Kids/Grown-Ups. These programs reach out to both children and adults in separate, synergistic settings that have been designed to provide a nurturing, expressive, creative and fun environment for hea

ling to transpire. Death is a difficult concept for children to grasp. Kids often keep their emotions hidden, not knowing how to communicate their pain, and not wanting to add to an adult's grief burden. Weekend programs provide a safe place for these children to express themselves. Through art, music, role-playing, and a lot of talking and laughing, kids learn about death and dying. And, they learn how to begin to cope. At the same time nearby, adult family members are learning too, exploring their grief through journaling, music, art, self-care, relaxation and dialogue. This Labor Day, we're celebrating the people behind the work. 💜

The people who arrive early.
Set up the tables.
Prepare the activities.
Listen to the stories.
Offer a hug.
Clean up afterward.

At Stepping Stones of Hope, creating a safe place for grieving children, teens, families and adults takes many hands—and some incredibly generous hearts.

🍂 Grief has seasons, too.

There is something about a changing season that can bring memories closer. A familiar smell. A cooler morning. A tradition approaching on the calendar. A place you used to visit together.

For someone who is grieving, the arrival of fall can hold both beauty and heartache.
And just as the seasons change, grief changes with us. It may feel heavy one day and gentler the next. There may be moments of sadness alongside moments of laughter, gratitude and even joy.

There is no timeline and no “right” way to move through it.

This fall, give yourself permission to hold on to what matters, let go of what you’re ready to release, and make space for whatever this season brings. 💜

And remember—you don't have to walk through it alone.

What happens when you bring together the people who know and love Stepping Stones of Hope? You listen, reflect, dream—and imagine what’s possible.

More than 25 past campers, volunteers, board members, and friends gathered at Spirit in the Desert for a meaningful weekend of connection, personal discovery, and collaboration.

Together, we shared experiences, explored the values that define our community, and helped shape ideas for the future of our camps and programs.
We left the weekend reminded that Stepping Stones of Hope has always been about more than a camp—it’s about compassion, connection, healing, and hope.

To everyone who shared their voice, their stories, their ideas, and their heart with us: thank you. 💚

And for those who are grieving the loss of a mother, longing to become a mother, missing a child, or carrying quiet pain behind the smiles today — we are holding space for you too.
