Three things worth knowing before a first Maternal Fetal Medicine visit, and none of them are medical: write your questions down, bring someone with you if you can, and plan for longer than a regular appointment.

One more that did not fit on a slide. You are allowed to ask us to slow down.

Almost nobody refers themselves to maternal fetal medicine. It usually starts with your OB or midwife, and that is the normal route.

Still, it helps to know what tends to prompt a referral. We put together four groups of reasons, from conditions you already live with to findings on an ultrasound.

Seeing yourself on the list does not mean something is wrong. It means it is worth asking about at your next appointment.

Together, we can.

Celebrating a Legacy in Medicine

For decades, Dr. John Elliott has made an extraordinary impact on medicine—and on the countless people fortunate enough to learn from him, work alongside him, and call him a colleague, mentor, and friend.

Now it’s our turn to celebrate him.

We invite providers, administration, staff, colleagues, and friends whose lives and careers have been touched by Dr. John Elliott to join us for a special evening honoring his retirement and the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.

📅 Saturday, October 24, 2026
🥂 Reception | 5:00 PM
🍽️ Dinner & Celebration | 6:00 PM

Whether Dr. Elliott mentored you, worked beside you, influenced your career, or simply made an impression you’ll never forget, we hope you’ll join us as we celebrate a truly great man and an incredible career in medicine.

Adults-only celebration, please. We love your little ones, but this special evening is just for the grown-ups.

We look forward to an unforgettable evening of stories, laughter, memories, and celebration.

"I was referred to an MFM specialist. What does that mean?" It is one of the most common questions we hear. Swipe to learn what a maternal-fetal medicine specialist does, the common reasons for a referral, and why it is often more about information and reassurance than worry. Questions about a referral? 📸 We scheduled professional headshots...
..and somehow ended up at JCPenney circa 1994. 😆

Our VPS Estrella providers came ready for updated photos, but when the cameras started clicking, the throwback energy took over. From classic studio poses to full-on mall photo session nostalgia, these ladies proved that great providers don't just take care of patients—they know how to have a little fun too.

Behind every exceptional provider is a personality, a sense of humor, and a team that genuinely enjoys working together. We think these photos captured all of that perfectly.

Which one is your favorite throwback pose? 👇

🤰 MYTH BUSTER MONDAY 🤰

"You’re carrying high—it must be a girl!"

"You’re carrying low—it must be a boy!"

We've all heard it. 😄

While it's a fun guess, the way you carry has nothing to do with your baby's gender. Your bump shape is influenced by things like your body type, muscle tone, baby's position, and whether you've been pregnant before.

So while friends, family, coworkers, and even complete strangers may have opinions, we'll stick with the ultrasound. 😉

Let's hear them!
What's the wildest pregnancy myth you've been told?

Valley Perinatal Services is now offering telemedicine solutions!

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is an approach that allows our physicians to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients using telecommunication technology. Telemedicine provides clinical services to patients without an in-person visit. This type of care is frequently used for follow-up visits, management of chronic conditions, medication management, and consultative services.

VPS is currently offering telemedicine for:
- Genetic Counseling
- Nutrition Counseling
- MFM Consultations
- Diabetic Management Counseling

Contact us or call us at 480-756-6000 for more information.

04/21/2020

In light of COVID-19 and as part of our Infectious Plan Task Force Response, Valley Perinatal Services (VPS) will be taking additional precautions to protect our patients, staff, and providers. As such, we are implementing numerous policy and operational changes to identify and restrict the spread of the
coronavirus.

Effective immediately, the following locations in the East Valley will be temporarily closed:

• Mesa
• Gateway
• Scottsdale

Patients from the above-mentioned locations will be rerouted to either the Chandler, Glendale, Phoenix, or Estrella offices. To reduce possible exposure to our staff and other patients movement will be restricted within the operating clinics to ultrasound and procedural appointments. At this time guest(s) will not be allowed to accompany patients into their appointments. Guest must remain outside the clinic or remain in their vehicles. Exceptions to this policy will be made on a case by case basis, please contact VPS at 480-756-6000 with any questions or concerns regarding this policy change.

We are reducing the in-office services when possible and will be offering telemedicine for professional services to minimize exposure of COVID-19 to patients, team members, and providers. A VPS staff member will contact you via telephonic communication to provide your tele-medicine options.

Please be aware that this situation is evolving rapidly, and the information may change. We are continuously monitoring the updated information from the CDC, the Arizona Department of Health Services, and the World Health Organization.

To reduce unknown exposure to COVID-19, VPS will conduct a pre-appointment questionnaire prior to your appointment date. The goal is to identify any "at-risk" patients before they arrive at the clinics.

The questionnaire will collect information to determine if any of the following symptoms exist:

• Fever
• Cough
• Myalgia or fatigue
• Shortness of breath
• Sore throat
• Headache,
• Productive cough,
• Hemoptysis (coughing up blood),
• Nausea
• Diarrhea

If you have had or currently have any of the following symptoms please notify a VPS staff member during your preappointment questionnaire and VPS will discuss next steps. You may also receive communication by our office via text message for any updates regarding the developments with COVID-19 or updates to your appointment.

VPS truly appreciates the trust you place in us and for allowing us to participate in the care of your family. We are
available to answer any questions or to assist you as you navigate these challenging times.

If you have any questions regarding this notice, please call us at 480-756-6000.
