An angiogram can provide valuable information, but it is not risk free.
I have seen a man in his 40s suffer a devastating stroke that left one side of his body paralyzed. I also saw a 31 year old woman experience a coronary dissection, a massive heart attack, and ultimately require a heart transplant.
These complications are rare, but they are real. Before recommending an invasive test, the expected benefit should be clear enough to justify the risk.
The question is not simply whether the test might lead to a stent. It is whether the result is likely to change care and meaningfully improve the patient’s outcome.
