Why can therapy feel harder before it starts to feel better?

Many people expect to feel immediate relief after starting therapy. While that certainly happens for some, it's also completely normal to leave a session feeling emotionally drained, reflective, or even a little uncomfortable.

Healing often means facing thoughts, emotions, and patterns we've been carrying for a long time. Although that process isn't always easy, it can be an important part of creating meaningful, lasting change.

If you've ever wondered whether therapy is "working" because it feels difficult, this week's blog is for you.

Choosing a therapist can feel like a big decision.

How do you know who’s the right fit? Should you look at credentials? Experience? Personality? What if you don’t connect with the first therapist you meet?

These are questions I hear often, and they’re exactly why I wrote my newest blog.

Finding the right therapist isn’t about finding someone who’s “perfect.” It’s about finding someone you feel comfortable with—someone who listens, understands your goals, and helps you move forward.

Whether you’re looking for individual therapy, couples counseling, or family therapy, I hope this article helps make the process feel a little less overwhelming.

“What does therapy actually look like for children?”

This is one of the most common questions parents ask — especially when considering support for a child struggling with anxiety, emotional outbursts, stress, friendship challenges, or family transitions.

For children ages 6–12, therapy is designed to feel safe, supportive, and engaging. Children often express emotions through conversation, creativity, play, and connection while learning important coping and emotional regulation skills.

In our newest blog post, we discuss:
✨ What happens during child therapy
✨ Common reasons children may benefit from therapy
✨ How parents are involved in the process
✨ The lifelong emotional skills children can build through support

“Why do I keep ending up in the same type of relationship?”

It’s one of the most common questions people ask in therapy.Relationship patterns don’t just happen by accident. Many of them are shaped by early experiences and the ways we learned to connect with others.

The good news is that patterns can be understood—and changed.

I wrote a new blog post about why relationship patterns repeat and what you can do to start breaking the cycle.

Read it here:

“We love each other… so why do we keep fighting?”

If you’ve thought this lately, you’re not alone.

Most couples who argue frequently don’t have a love problem.

They have a pattern problem.

One of you pursues.
One of you shuts down.
Both of you feel unheard.

And somehow the same argument shows up again.

I wrote a new blog about why this happens — and what actually helps couples break the cycle.

If this resonates, take a few minutes to read it here:

And I’m curious — what do you think most couples fight about?

Many people struggle to tell the difference between burnout, anxiety, and a difficult season of life—especially at the start of a new year. These experiences often overlap, but understanding what’s underneath can be an important first step toward feeling better.

In this week’s blog, we explore common signs of burnout and anxiety, how life stress can impact emotional well-being, and how therapy can help bring clarity and support.
